[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • Ppl I found a temporarily fix until bungie learn how to optimized PC. I went into the Destiny 2 files and turn multi threaded rendering from 0 to 1. There’s some flickering going on but it’s not enough that it’ll ruin gameplay.

    • Same fps issues in the Tangled shore, Tower and heavy frame stutter in the crucible. Pastebin Link: https://pastebin.com/cg2SAJ7P I changed the multi threaded render from 0 to 1 and it kinda did the trick for me. Atleast im getting 100fps+ in the tangled shore

https://pastebin.com/TFYBbTwD I recently got back into the game and noticed that the game does not run consistently and has done so since I started back up almost a month ago. I usually sit at around 70 to almost 80 fps most of the time on the highest settings and even the lowest for some reason, which seems really low to start. Where the most irritating problem happens is when I load into zones like The EDZ, where I drop to 40-50 fps and can't break past it until I go somewhere else. Even then I will have random drops. I have as few background programs running as possible. I've been monitoring the performance and found over time that my CPU and RAM usage just start to build up to almost like 60% at times. My rig should be more than enough to run this game a bit smoother. Update: Issue has only gotten worse. Now my fps is all over the place.

    • my 3070 arrived and I'm playing at 1440P all on the stalk at 100 FPS +, I'm really happy with performance ..... But I believe it would be possible to have more performance, because both the CPU and GPU usage are very low, CPU in the house 10/15% and GPU around 30/40% ....... My CPU is a Ryzen 1800X that does have a bit of a bottleneck, but in COD Warzone it takes the card to 90/95% of use .... Is it really a game thing?

      • Sad to hear, at my end I got a CPU performance degradation since the 3.0.0.4 update. My GPU is fine.

      • Is anyone else having an issue with running 1440 resolution and 120 fps is no longer an option. I can switch to 1080 and 120 fps appears as an option but switching back to 1440 resolution, 120 fps disappears.

I found another game with same issues, it is The Division 2. Same problems with my RX 5700 XT. In the open world areas FPS tanks from usual 100-100 FPS to 50-65 FPS, GPU usage are 60-70%, as in Destiny 2, but there's solution. I just changed to DX12 render and vualia, everything works as it should, all areas over 100 FPS, 97-99% GPU usage. I suspect there is something wrong with DX11 in either drivers, or Windows 2004 build. I don't have any other DX11 game to test. Both CoDs, Modern Warfare and Black Ops, use DX12, same with Forza Horizon 4 or Forza Motorsport 7, The Division 2 with DX12 also works great. Only one game works bad and it's Destiny 2 with DX11. I want to stress that Division 2 with DX11 also works like ass on RX 5700 XT as I mentioned.

        • Im getting less fps everywhere. Was getting around 55-60fps before beyond light, now I'm between 35-55. Running the game at low-medium settings Most noticable is at the tangle shore spawn point in thieves' landing, at the dreaming city spawnpoint and the 1st mission of beyond light (the one where you have to shoot Variks legs to unfreeze him) dxdiag file: https://pastebin.com/FcgdtXjA in game settings: https://pastebin.com/qnY51UJJ

          • Here's my DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/f3BsTFQT Asus Prime B450-plus Ryzen 5 3600 16GB RAM @ 3200MHz RX 580 8GB Game is installed on an SSD. Overall my fps has dropped about 20 everywhere. Even more on EDZ, The Tangled Shore and Gambit. Sometimes I get huge fps drops in the crucible when I spawn, get shot at or hit with anything stasis. Especially in the beginning of the match. All this after the release of Beyond Light.

Z390 Auros master MB i9-9900k RTX 2080ti - Driver 457.09 both on custom water loop 64GB ram NVMe M.2 1000 watt EVGA Power supply I have been trying to figure this out since Beyond Light released. I have found the issue. The game is not utilizing multicore on the CPU or something, and part of the issue is the new Reflex junk NVidia released. I noticed my CPU temps were low compared to pre Beyond Light. The game is not using multicore. When I changed: "force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" to 1, and "low_latency_mode" to 0 in the Cvars file, my framerate and CPU temps went back to pre Beyond Light values. The only downside is the "force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" set to 1 causes the game to have lots of flickering artifacts. If the artifacts can be fixed, my game will be normal again. before Beyond light 1440p + 135% render res, the game never dropped below 100 fps. After Beyond light 1440p + 100% render res dropping into the 60-70's. After changing these values, my pc is back to 100+ fps at 135% render res and 1440p with flickering. Please bungie look into this.

            • dxdiag https://pastebin.com/cRr2sr30 As of today my fps has gone from 110-140 depending on activity to 44-65 depending on activity and sometimes even as low as 22 in the tower. I have no idea what happened but the game feels unplayable, like I am playing with input lag or something. It is miserable.

              • I can 100% confirm that the following fixed my issues on AMD at least. Went back to driver 20.4.1 my fps on tangled shore and braytech went from 45 to 90-100. Any driver after that up until today I have tested all of them they all have low fps. I do honestly think the issue lies with windows version 2004 I havent tested build 1909, the reason for comming to this conclusion is if you read the patch notes for driver 20.5.1( first driver to have issues in beyond light) it says added support for windows build 2004 and nothing else realy was in that driver. i will add my dxdiag but i urge Nvidia users who are having the same issue try and find A driver that did not have the windows build 2004 optimizations and check if your game runs better. Cheers hope this helps @bungie ! https://pastebin.com/TQFLRWzb
