[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • I tested it while sitting in orbit and turns out I have 2 problems but before I go there some context is needed. I'm using a 1080p 144hz monitor and in the nvidia control panel I have G-Sync and V-Sync turned on. In all other games and in D2 prior to yesterday's patch, my fps would cap at 144 as expected. Now however it does cap at 144 but that is until I get past the "Press enter to play" screen. After that it caps at 139 for some reason. I tested other games and they cap at 144 as they should. Back to D2. I was sitting in orbit observing my framerate and I found out that while sitting at 139 it would drop down to 135 every few seconds for no reason at all and when that would happen it would feel like my monitor just flickered. It was very severe and noticeable, nothing like something that g-sync should have taken care of as usual. And also the framerate when walking around and doing stuff anywhere is very unstable. Specs: RTX 2070 Super AMD Ryzen 7 3800x Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3600MHz RAM Game installed on SSD Latest Windows 10 version, BIOS (latest stable version) and Drivers. • Recently bought a pc with a 3080 and 10700k and I noticed that when I play destiny I noticed that I get some stuttering. This is in both the menus and in the game. I cap the FPS at 144 and I notice that when the game stutters my 144 FPS drops to 139. If I cap the FPS at 120 it drops to 115. It seems like this stutter always drops me by 5 frames. It is very disruptive to gameplay.

My specs are here. Before Season of Arrivals Destiny 2 could run at 144 FPS, after it could run below 100 and above 70. Today it runs at around 60. I have tried all of the suggested resolutions to no avail. Other games seem to run fine, but not Destiny. These drops happen everywhere, but are most significant when there are more players nearby, in a destination with a significant amount of objects or entities, or where there are weather effects.

    • I'm actually having this problem on my xbox one x on my xbox one and I'm having matchmaking issues on my new series. I mean I can't matchmake with anyone! I load into the tower and I'm alone. I load anywhere and I'm alone when I try to matchmake it says evaluating guardians. I'm starting to think a hacker has messed with me so now I'm reinstalling destiny 3 on three consoles

Will the fix you're planning for January address the stuttering (or "microstutter" as I've heard it called)? My FPS seems decent (although it does fluctuate wildly depending on where I am and what's going on, typically between 110-160 FPS). But, I do get that frequent stuttering or "skipping", and it's really distracting. Pretty sure the game did not have that issue before Beyond Light, though I did make some hardware upgrades around the same time it released. i9 10850k, RTX 3080, 32 GB DDR4, 165 Hz G-Sync monitor...

Normally, i have my frames capped to 60 and i can play withouth any big problems. Although, since beyond light i'm having constant frames drops (like from 60 it goes down to 6 for like 2 seconds and goes up again). Here my dx: https://pastebin.com/FHiFaiHY I really hope that your fix can attenuate this issue.

I'm having this issue everywhere but mostly in strikes. Never dipped below 130fps before and now I'm seeing it go as low as the 50s. Crucible is running in the 80s. Even seeing the tower fps go down into the 70s. Please fix this. I got a Ryzen 3900XT, Radeon 5700XT, and 32gb of 3600mhz cl16 RAM. Game is playing off of a gen 4 m.2 ssd.

          • R5 3600 at 4.2 Ghz Rx 480 8G at 1350 MHz Tested all settings, Resolution 1440p downscaled to 65%, using mostly high settings Tangle shore is the most noticeable drop framerate 47 avg in fallen anding area. I noticed GPU is only 75% while other areas tend to hit 100% and framerate goes around 70-80. I tried multi-thread rendering but that creates visual errors all over the place though the frame rate goes up significantly.

          • Glad to hear the work has begun to bear fruit! Thanks for all you're doing trying to solve these issues! As good as it is to hear that some problems have been solved, the one that affects me still has not; is there any news on the View-Master™ style cut scenes? My in-game FPS doesn't seem to have suffered in BL (although the lighting is a bit odd; some places have **way** too much bloom, ship engine effects kind of come and go), but for me the big thing is that I'm now missing the entire campaign story on my second character because cut scenes are inoperable; if allowed to run without hitting ESC to skip them, I am thrown either to the title screen with a message about the game becoming de-synced, or crashed right out to the desktop. I posted my DXDiag last month when this all started; I'm sure that initial pastebin has expired. Would it be worthwhile/useful to repost? And truly -- I know that it seems like all we do is complain. It's only because we want to enjoy your game to the fullest. Despite all the grumbling and negativity on the surface, deep down we do appreciate all the work and effort put into helping us out. Thanks again!

          • You guys fixed the texture flickering with SLI but completely destroyed the compatibility and scaling. On 1 card i can run max settings in 1080p with frames locked at 60FPS in the tower with no dips. In SLI my frames drop to 45Fps in the tower with the same settings. 980ti in SLI Please figure this out and fix it. I want to run the game at higher resolution like i did before BL launched. 60FPS locked in 4k on high settings.

          • Every since the new hotfix I’m only able to go to the Tower, and even that crashed my game three times before it let me lend there. Ryzen 7 2700X RTX 2070 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 Never had any issues with the game until now.

          • My issues start at the character select screen, upon hovering over the first character I get a massive stutter that lasts about 2 seconds this problem continues with each character I hover over next, my inventory screen anytime I open it I get that same stutter almost like the game freezes for a full 2 seconds and this is every time I open my inventory anytime I try to land in a new area I'm faced with big fps drops and massive stutters as mentioned before and if I try to load a new activity I get "contacting destiny servers" and the same stutter but this time for about 5 seconds (worst of these come from wrathborn hunts) none of these issues were present before beyond light dropped I have a wired connection of about 400 mbs specs: MSI triforce gaming 2080ti Ryzen 7 3800x b450 gaming MOBO 16 GB DDR4 ram and destiny is currently on a 1tb ssd also here is my link https://pastebin.com/XCc2bxMJ all help is appreciated

Pre update I had all my setting maxed out (motion blur off & no HDR) in Destiny 2 at 1440p and I was averaging 75-100 FPS (except in Trostland), but now I go to the Tower and can barely hit 60 FPS. On other destinations like like Moon (Sorrow's Harbor) I frequently drop below 60 FPS and (to me) it renders it unplayable. I can handle below 60 FPS (I've played like that most my life) but the consistent frame drops is not something I enjoy. Good luck in finding the cause to this problem; I hope this helped.

            • Radeon RX Vega 64 Ryzen 9 3900X CPU 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Windows 10 Pro For some reason, certain areas such as the Tangled Shore landing pad refuse to use the full GPU power. Usage might be around 90% with drops, but the core clock hovers around 1000MHz when by default it can go up to 1600MHz. Memory clock around 500/800 when it's default is 945MHz. Reducing the resolution to 720p at 25% res scale doesn't improve performance at all from 1440p 100%. Entrance to Bray Exoscience is also super heavy for me, and it was on launch day too. That door right before the first large area where the shard of Darkness is. Tower feels oddly heavy too. Image of the low fps and res scale: https://i.imgur.com/6wdPFES.png

            • I've not sure what the "performance issues" you're dealing with, but since Beyond Light hit, I generally have 35-50 FPS less than I should, in pretty much all areas. All game settings are maxed. Resolution 3440x1440 FOV-Maxed. Motion Blur is off, everything else is maxed. Maximus Hero X I7-8700K(OC-5.0) Asus Cerberus 1070-TI(OC-1901) G.Skill 3200mhz 16GB Corsair H100I Platnum RGB Corsair RM750X I used to get 95-110 FPS straight down the board, now I'm getting 45-70

            • https://pastebin.com/d4GMrfC5 Destiny 2 has been stuttering/frame dropping for me before beyond light, beyond light has just made it slightly worse and I have narrowed it down to only being Destiny 2 if you check my other posts you will see when this started happening for me. Destiny 2 is the only game that has been stuttering and having performance issues on my PC and no other game. But since beyond light launched I have noticed my game has been stuttering a little more frequently and has been stuttering or freezing for slightly longer, if I were to describe the stutter it is like clockwork and does it every 10 to 20 seconds. And of course I have got lower FPS since the beyond light update like everyone else. I just hope the stuttering issue gets fixed as well as the low FPS problem, This stuttering has gone on for far too long and is getting really frustrating now. Thanks for reading.

So, for AMD GPU users (not for new gpu RX6000) it's possible solution for fps issues. You need download and installing old Radeon Software driver 20.4.2 version. Details in my topic. Link for download official driver - https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-4-2

I am a PVP guy , yes. I would play this game with flickering shadow under 240fps rather than 80fps, yes. disappointing

                    • 5800x + 6800xt. When in tangled shore, only 45~60 fps. The graphics card is basically sleeping, and only consumes 100W of power to run out of 50FPS. No matter I set it to 1080P full low or full high, the number of frames is always 50. WTF. The CPU and GPU are barely running at 30% and 60% respectively. GPU isn't even trying to ramp up. See image for details https://imgur.com/a/THFpeRL
