[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • Right now this is the one thing from stopping me logging on. 48fps when I have above the recommended specs on high settings is dreadful considering the game was fairly well optimized before beyond light. The fact that the latest patch notes say nothing about fixing this issue is just a giant f you to everyone on pc, and instead you're getting rid of the only incentive to run PoH.

      • I don't want to start whining again until/unless February rolls around with no fix... But seeing yet another TWAB where this (major) issue wasn't highlighted in any way really doesn't get my hopes up. I know that it's technically within the 'known issues' section, but I can't help but think that there should be some more urgency and communication around this. I haven't touched the game in almost a month. And not for a lack of wanting to play. I sincerely hope that a fix is truly coming very soon.

I have much lower performance since Beyond Light launched (if this is because of the new lighting system, then it is not worth it). Before BL, I was able to play in 1800p60 on an RTX 2070 SUPER. When BL came out, I had to go down to 1440p60. Now I upgraded to an RTX 3080 and I cannot keep constant 60 FPS in native 4K, I get occasional drops. I had to lower the internal resolution to 90% (I would probably get 125% before the expansion). I am also getting regular micro-stutters while simply traversing the world. I did not have that before. Lower performance would not be that big of a problem if the game made use of Temporal Anti-Aliasing (standard in almost every game now). Aliasing in this game is absolutely terrible, just disgusting. In other games, 1080p with TAA looks better than 4K with SMAA/FXAA. You have to implement this. DLSS 2.0 would be very useful as well.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x Radeon 6800 xt 32Gb ram I upgrade all my computer internals that were 4 generations old and literally went down 50+ FPS. It's pretty sad I can't even play this game right now because I jitter so much in EDZ, Tangled Shore, or any PVP map. I'm pretty upset this issue has clearly gone on the back burner. I probably won't be playing until this issue gets resolved. With the rig I have, I should be doing well over 144hz, not 40-70 in-game. For once do something to fix your game that helps out your base instead of fixing dragonfly on a primary.

            • I havent played since this came about . It's almost impossible to play - I go from 120fps to down 20-30 in some cases in the crucible. The entire experience has been ruined basically and now they've disabled SLI? There's really no reason to play if I cant run the freaking game properly.

MSI GE75 Raider 10SE NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Intel Core i7-10750H CPU Before Beyond Light, I would get flawless performance graphics and fps wise, where the only thing that (occasionally) affected me was just network performance. After Beyond Light, I would start to get micro stutters in missions and various places within free roam. Even occasionally upon loading into an area, get fps as low as 16FPS for no known reason. After the 01/05/2021 weekly reset, it's gotten completely worse. Every activity/area I load into has a large lag spike before I actually visibly loaded into an area, and some areas even having stuttering for a minute or two after loading in, as well as that when I encounter the first room of mission only enemies for the Coup De Grace mission, I would get some huge stutters that dropped down to about 20fps at times. When the 01/12/2021 weekly reset hit, I am now seeing that when I try to load into the Dreaming City's free roam area, eight out of the nine times I have tried, I have crashed upon a black screen and the transmat sounds. In addition, I've had a few moments where things were quite lagging performance wise, especially with the only time I managed to load into the Dreaming City, where I dropped down to 16FPS soon after loading in for a second or two. And all of this has happened both with and without overclock enabled on my GPU (an overclock that is quite stable for this laptop). Also, there has most likely been some issues happening with the servers because of one Strike I loaded into, when I first tried loading in, I crashed upon loading, so I relaunched the game, managed to rejoin the same activity, and upon successfully loading in, everything was frozen besides me being able to move about. Both teammates were frozen (even saying that they left the activity, but their names and slight parts of their characters remained) and the Scorn tank and all the scorn were frozen (the scorn being able to die by melee or weapons (without any drops) and the scorn tank wouldn't take any damage). Edit: I turned off NVIDIA Control Center's Shader Cache option for only D2 and I have seen a performance boost, however I understand that having Shader Cache is supposed to improve performance, not worsen it as it doesn't have to grab new shaders each time the game runs.

              • i7 8700k + 1070ti The FPS is much lower overall compared to pre-BL. However the microstutters are what concerns me the most. The game doesn't feel smooth anymore, framespiking here and there. Changing settings has no effect.

                • I am having massive issues in every part of the game. Last time I played (early Decemeber) the game ran smooth as butter and looked amazing. Now I am getting massive FPS drops in the menus (drops to like 1). I can't even load into the Cosmodrome, it just closes my game and throws me to desktop. I managed to load into Tangled Shore but my fps drops to 1 - 5 and freezes up every second. The game is literally unplayable for me now. I tried. My specs are i7-6700 16gig ram GeForce 1080 FTW All my drivers are up to date. I just re-installed and it's still not working. The game ran so beautifully not even 2 months ago. Now I can't even load into the Cosomodrome. I can't do anything. I have nearly 500 hours on Steam alone. I've purchased every expansion since launch on PC and PS4. I've put a lot of money into this game and now I can't even play it. Can someone from Bungie please help me out here? I'm at my wits end. I want to finish up this season but the game is literally unplayable for me.

Yo Bungie where the -blam!- is the TWAB mention on this issue......... your literally gimping high end users on a PS4 capable title...... lol at least acknowledge the issue in the TWAB so it gets more attention for other users who might not have reported the problem yet.

                      • ***Solution for Me**** I tried everything under the flippin sun to get this game to run the way it's supposed to and the only thing that actually worked for me was to use DDU to uninstall the current NVIDIA drivers and GeForce Experience and to download the 441.41 Game Ready Driver. This completely fixed the performance issues everywhere and the microstutters. Guys on AMD stuff, no clue what to do on that end.

                      • Ooohh Let's see, what's going on here? Exactly what I said would happen, Bungo decided that killing PC performance wasn't really an issue and they're not doing anything to fix it. Enjoy uninstalling your broken game, I know I did.

                      • My game has normal performance on ALL areas EXCEPT tangled shore. Seems to be AMD related, possibly 5700xt related. I had super old drivers and it was fine, my roommate was experiencing the issue (same GPUs). After I updated to the latest drivers, i started having tangled shore FPS issues. Normally i get 144fps easily, now getting 50-60.

Look bungie if you dial back the performance of the game by just a vaseline and more contrasty looking game remove that shit because we have already enough with broken noob things like stasis not to mention the pay wall behind that and my PC with an RX 580 and Ryzen R5 3600 since the first time play the game he was running all the time at 75fps cap and dropping the minimum to 48fps and I'm talking about insane super and explosives and npcs at the same time well together and also your frickin game drops hard when you have a wide view of the of some planet..... But noooo you really have to mess up with the performance and now drops to 43 and drops like crazy below 60fps I will tell you one thing that maybe you don't realize because to be honest your game become slower and slower after all the useless updates that takes 6 months to fix 3 things...... Maybe you already know but A GAME THAT RUN LIKE CRAP WON'T PLEASE ANYONE IF YOU REALLY WANT PEOPLE TO PLAY YOUR GAME MAKE YOUR RUN BETTER BECAUSE IN THIS -blam!-ING WORLD WITH INFLATED GPUS NOW NOT EVERY HAVE FOR A FRICKIN 3080

                      • Just sharing that when I first got my 3080 (within the first month of them launching), performance was great in Destiny. I updated to a new Nvidia driver and I lost about 20-30fps - it's especially noticeable in the tower where I'm averaging 50-60fps now. Did DDU of course - didn't fix it. I don't remember which driver I was using when it was performing great on my 3080 but it doesn't matter as the new driver from Nvidia this week patches low level security holes so I wouldn't want to lose those patches. Hoping this gets resolved because I'm getting a worse framerate than what I was getting with my 2080ti.

If the game installed on not Windows disk, I had a shader cache problem. The shader cache didn't work, and I had incredible stuttering in the game and bee-error. Video card is Radeon RX5600XT Look this video https://youtu.be/qx4uMf5OiJM After I moved the game to Windows disk the problems are gone.
