[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Prior to Update 3.0.2 I was one of the ones not affected by the stuttering, frame drops or any other performance issues. I run a 3900x, 1080ti with 32gbs of Ram (tightened timings), with Destiny 2 running off a NvME SSD from Samsung. The power supply is newer (less than a year old) and is 850watts Gold Standard so is providing more than enough power to everything. The 3900x is unmodified and temps for the whole system are within healthy ranges. Nvidia drivers are from Dec 2020 as I had heard newer drivers were causing problems and don't update my drivers regularly unless I see performance reasons to do so. Prior to Update 3.0.2 I was not experiencing any real performance issues, but with yesterday's update I am now experiencing major stuttering during any form of action in Crucible. I have everything on low in settings, except textures. I'm using a 3440x1440 monitor and have been for the past two years of Destiny 2. The stuttering is not reflected in my frame rates, everything is always over 100 fps. At this point none of the fixes (and I've tried all of them), have fixed this issue. My disappointment as a D1Y1 veteran has hit a new low.

      • January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance? Not for AMD. We cant turn off the shader cache.

      • The update barely did something, which is pathetic, like 5-10 more fps on the tangled shoe and other locations where the performance is awful. Still lots of stutters and drops everywhere in any activity, this engine changes are the worst thing that could happen to this game. https://pastebin.com/8HgPGi8T

          • so, pretty much at this point, i've uninstalled Destiny 2... unfortunately, i cannot get a refund, because i have 800+ hours in steam platform alone.. The lack of communication is what baffles me: 2x months without any update on the matter... We are not talking about nerf on a weapon, on a exploit (which you guys fix so damn fast), we are talking about people that cannot play because you guys don't play test your build in different scenarios, hardware etc... that amateurism, i was really trying to love the game (mainly play because of the pvp) because last update all you guys done was sunset 60% of the game (weapons too, still dint get it why you guys removed the True Prophecy for world drop, world class communication, am i right?) and introduced a half baked expansion, which i've paid you depositing my trust and you guys cant fix a problem that you guys caused and know what it is for 2x months almost? sry unacceptable

So I bought an RX 6900 XT and haven't been able to play D2 as it is suppose because of this bug. No matter the destination I'm almost all the time at +40fps with continuos stutters. You promised a fix mid-january and so far we got nothing. Nevertheless that horrid sunsetting system keeps destroying the game and you keep pushing it to limits that we as players can't stand.

Here to report: Light patch DID help somewhat. Still have subpar performance but I'm seeing anywhere between 5-10 FPS frames. Caveat: 1. I updated my Motherboard BIOS 2. I reset my shader cache after the update. Biggest performance hit areas are public spaces with large skyboxes. Tanged Shore, EDZ, and DC are all prime culprits. HOWEVER, exiting areas with the skybox boosts FPS and I'm able to get up to a stable 75 FPS any time I'm in a solo instance. Lost Sectors and Strikes also appear mostly stable. Haven't tried Crucible yet, but I will note that I had mostly stable performance in Crucible pre-patch. Perhaps there's light particles in the Skyboxes that need to be addressed. Performance in the Tower is also noticeably better.

                  • Just joining in to confirm that I'm still seeing FPS drops after 3.0.2. Most especially when fighting a good number of enemies in game. But also when (and this is the weird one) mousing over my weapons on the character screen, going from character screen to say Triumphs screen then back, and occasionally just sitting in orbit will see it drop 2-3 fps under 60. Might be that there are multiple fps problems going on, and the lighting one was a big one but just not what is causing my drops from the end of last season to now.

                  • Disabling Shader Cache (in the Nvidia driver) resolves this issue on a Nvidia 1080. Disabling Shader Cache (regedit) does not resolve this issue on a 6800XT.

                  • For amd 6000 series owners, the settings posted below doesn't fix the frame issue but it does make use of those powerful gpu's to make the game look much better. But yeah playing at 40-50 frames on tangled shore feels horrible regardless of how good it looks. Under amd - settings - display - enable Virtual Super Resolution (allows putting 4k image on lower resolution monitors) In game video settings set resolution to 3840 x 2160 (4k) I capped frame rate 140 I used medium preset and then tweaked Off Off 2x Highest Medium High Medium Medium Medium Medium Medium Off On Additional 100% Off Off Off I tell you the game has never looked so good and on maps where you get 100+fps it feels smooth, no stutters.
