[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • R9 390 (i5 4690k) user reporting in, I also suffer from mircostutters on PVP maps, albeit not all of them. I'm aware that my hardware is old, but Beyond Light made everything worse and the game ran great before. A friend of mine sees better performance with a GTX 770 for example.

    • Bungie, still getting FPS drops and stutters down to 10 FPS. At what point did you just give up on your player base?

    • HELLO?! We're literally talking into a void here. Months and months of people talking about their problem with AMD GPUs and we can't even get an acknowledgement.

    • The games is basically broken with an AMD GPU. 6900XT has 40fps+ in the EDZ and stutters all over the place. Well done Bungie.....

      • OK the latest in this madness, i swapped out my MSI MAG27CQ for my ASUS TUF VG27W and no more flickering and honestly less choppiness but that is only in full screen, if i do border-less i get stutters again... so if you have a MSI 1440p monitor i guess they are not good for the new AMD hardware right now

        • So i found that a lot of the issue seemed to be the monitors freesync.. I turned off no stutters no flickers but screen taring, so i used a program call CRU to lower the freesync settings from 48 to 38 and bam way better getting 200plus in game at high settings. I can play the game again just wish we didnt have to tweek settings to make it work

            • Can we get some transparency about this continuing issue? a tweet, an update to this post, the next twab, a carrier pigeon? Preferably from a DEV that works on these kind of issues.

Started having issues this Season (Chosen) on my 2080 Super and turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel fixed the issue. A day or two later the issue came back and it turned out to be Wallpaper Engine despite it configured to stop when games are running. Closing out of Wallpaper Engine resolved it completely for me. - Ryzen 3700X - NVIDIA 2080 Super - 3440x1440 144Hz

              • I'm not sure if they don't know how to fix it or just think it's not worth their time at this point but it's really hard to enjoy the game as is without the added poor performance and I'm on the lookout for other games if this doesn't get resolved soon. It's been a known issue for far too long and this is unacceptable.

              • Hello, I recently upgrade my system from a AMD Vega 64 to a RX 6800XT and have found that Destiny 2 isn't boosting the 6800XT to its full speed during gameplay. When I'm in load screens I get frame rates between 250-350 fps but when I'm in the tower or other gameplay areas the frame rate is 60-130fps. This is not that much better than what I was getting with my Vega 64. I have noticed that during gameplay the card's GPU utilisation is at about 80% but the frequency at which the GPU is running is only 1-1.6Ghz. At full burst the card should run at 2.2 to 2.3Ghz but it never gets that high. When in loading screens the card runs at 1.2-1.9Ghz, never reaching the 2.2-2.3Ghz its capable off. Cooling is not an issue because the card never thermal throttles as it is not reaching thermal peak thresholds. I have also removed the video drivers using DDU and installed the latest version (21.2.1) but this has not improved things. I have tried CVARS removal but that also made no improvement. The video settings in the game are; Resolution 1440p, Vsync Off, Frame Cap Off. All my other games and benchmark software utilise the 6800XT to its full potential and run the card at 99% load at the 2.2-2.3Ghz mark, only Destiny 2 is not boosting the card properly. Cheers.

                • How is this still ignored? it's been months now and nobody with a 6800xt can actually normally play the game without crashing/50 fps. No update for 2 weeks either on this and the last update of somethings being "fixed" didn't do anything.
