[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Unless some streaming ** talks about this issue, Bungie will not do anything, nor will there be any media pressure on them to fix it. So, if you know any of those sobs, now is the chance to make them do good.

  • nice patch is very obvious the effort for fix shit that nobody need instead of fixing your -blam!-ing performance

  • I have to admit, I am both relieved and upset about the whole FPS drop thing. Relieved in a way that I know that it's Bungie messing up and not my GPU. I recently switched from RX5700XT to RTX 2070 Super. What essentially happens is that when you are in crucible, randomly, the FPS will just drop down to 10-30, while the GPU only works at 30%. It seems like the GPUs are not even realizing that the game is running. This will mostly happen in crucible or in the tower. All the raids, nightfalls and other zones are okay (apart from permanently lower FPS on Tangled Shore). - I am not experiencing this issue on any other game - I am not overclocking and the GPU/CPU temps are always below 41 degrees for CPU and 70 for GPU. - CPU: R9-3900X, 32GB 3200MHz RAM, RTX2070Super - Playing on 1440p, 144Hz monitor - turning V-Sync on and off doesn't do anything - Normal FPS for everything set to Very-High/Ultra is usually around 90-100. - On top of this, as other people mentioned in different threads, visting Jetsam of Saturn on Tangled Shore crashes your game immediately The fact Bungie are not doing anything about this is quite concerning. They do not realize that the same thing that happened to CDPR/Cyberpunk2077 can happen to them. They promised a certain level of performance and they frankly did not deliver it, even though they charged everyone money for it. Of course, this is the same company that is known for its controversial strategy "let's remove half of the game for which the players paid while charging them even more for one strike and a new planet". Do not blame it on the size of the files. This game is just extremely poorly optimized, doesn't matter your specs, doesn't matter whether the game is on M.2 or HDD, it has the same level of performance since Beyond Light - P.O.O.R

  • system 5800X/6900XT PBO enable/rage mode enabled Performance on the moon, tangled shore, EDZ, crucible are terrible, on max settings, i get 40-60 fps at 1080p. I drop everything down to low, i get 80-100fps, still terrible for this setup, and the crucible is playable.

  • Hey there, I investigated a bit the stuttering issues on PC with 2 different nvidia cards, a 1660 GTX and a 1050 GTX. What I am calling stuttering issues here are brief moments (~1s avg) where the game stutters dropping FPS then catching up, leading to a brief acceleration right after the stutter. Everything was tested with recent nvidia drivers and on several play sessions to ensure I had reliable and reproducible conclusions. TL;DR: - The stuttering seems split into 2 causes, one of which can be eliminated when disabling the shader cache in NVIDIA settings. - The stuttering is more visible on the 1660 GTX which is also a faster machine than the one with the 1050GTX. But the 1050 GTX is not exempt of stuttering. - The stuttering causes I noticed are: A. Caused when either looking or entering a new light source zone. (This one can be avoided when disabling the shader cache) B. When passing through fixed locations in the game. (Might be zone loading, and I'll assume this for now) - The "story scenes" e.g. when the guardians is landing in the presage mission have fixed 30 FPS on PC, which I believe explains why the stuttering may be even worse there if the scene involves different light sources, like Shadowkeep's "We are your salvation" scene. More info: The presage mission is excellent to play test the issues I've encountered (and also in term of gaming experience, but that's another subject). - When not disabling the shader cache on the GTX 1660, on the landing zone, simply moving to the main big door and away from it will trigger stuttering issues at will. Simply run to the edge of it and then to the door and you'll have consistent stuttering issues near the middle of the platform. - The shader cache being disabled or not, and on both machines but most reliably on the one with the GTX 1660, jumping on the first platform from the landing zone on the left, moving around the corner, and entering inside the ship will reliably trigger stuttering issues. I hope this helps, stay safe.

    • https://pastebin.com/bn51bPfJ Just started happening while doing Europa Battleground 2/20 at about 3 pm EST. I've tried numerous things, even updating my drivers. I've dealt with this before and it's just gone away shortly so hopefully there's a fix soon considering it's been almost a month since the last update here.

    • Running a 3900x, 6800xt, 64gb ddr4 ram, at 1080 with all medium graphic settings in game, and with all the "tips and tricks" above performed, and I am still only getting 50-60 fps in nearly every open world/pvp area. Not to mention the horrific stuttering that literally lasts 2-3 seconds while in cutscenes or openworld areas. Been like this since Beyond Light and has not improved at all. I know it is a Bungie/D2 issue because I play a multitude of other games with 0 issues and 180-200 capped fps on max settings. "High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf" my ass.

    • Gameplay is still a bit laggy, especially lately when doing some activities, like Gambit, Strikes, or Battlegrounds from huge PVE lag. DxDiag is included as link, and also computer specs is basically just a MSI GE75 Raider 10SE-008.

Did everything and it is still -blam!-ed. Start the game, 141 fps, play crucible match, still 141 fps, go to tower and back to crucible, suddenly, 70 fps. Started a new game now, fullscreen, 59-60 fps. Switched to windowed mode at 1280x720 resolution, 59-60 fps, switched back to 1440p, still 59-60 fps. Enabled Xbox Overlay, 120 fps. Set rendering resolution to 25% - 60 fps, set it back to 100% - 60 fps. Played a strike with performance graph overlay active. CPU and GPU were around 50% the entire strike and I was at around 60 fps. I wonder what you messed up with the last patch before this Season, but you really need to revert it.

Anoter one TWAB and no news. I think, on them need file a lawsuit and claim compensation maybe then they will seriously tackle problem, because this is SCAM. People buy Deluxe Version for 70$ and can't play this game. Developers got their money and just silence now. Why do we need this thread, if a useless for us? Bungie even stopped responding in themes on forum where mentioned FPS issues. Them don't care, they got their money and happy.

        • Having massive issues on Europa, Earth and the Tangled Shore. Those are the big 3 locations. And when there are larger amounts of enemies, but with a medium end pc this shouldn't matter.

        • this whole thread is useless because bungie doesnt care. i can run every game just fine but destiny 2 drops below 30 with huuuuge input lag spikes. i tried all "fixes" and none of them work, the game ran fine pre beyond light with 120+ fps at high settings, now it cant even hold 30 fps at low settings. it's 100% on bungies end because i also tried a clean windows install + destiny 2 and still bad performance. red dead 2 for example runs at high settings in 45+ fps, borderlands 3 at high runs in 60fps....

        • Hello for all AMD users. Reverting back to driver version 20.4.2 fixed all my fps. Its not an ideal fix but it works I highly recommend anyone suffering fps issues to revert back. Seeing 60+ fps on tangled shore feels weird lmao.

          • R9 390 (i5 4690k) user reporting in, I also suffer from mircostutters on PVP maps, albeit not all of them. I'm aware that my hardware is old, but Beyond Light made everything worse and the game ran great before. A friend of mine sees better performance with a GTX 770 for example.
