[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. PC FPS Issues, possible help. Double check your refresh rate under Advanced Display Settings. I changed that to match my monitors refresh rate. Windows had mine set to 30 and I was experiencing some pretty dramatic fps spikes as well as significant screen tearing in gameplay and cutscenes. In game settings I set the Vsync to the same number and set the framerate cap to OFF and I am running in Fullscreen mode. Been a couple of weeks now and things have been running much better. I still experience some pretty big dips but nothing that affects gameplay performance or visuals. Vega64, Ryzen 7 2700X, 32gb@2133, 1440p@165Hz. Edit: Just double checked Tangle Shore with FPS Display turned on, it seems to average around 30fps, I'm getting 27-41 in all areas. Other planets seem ok.

  • Hopefully during this time you(bungie) are trying to solve this. I still have hope even after like 3-4 months. I would just like to be able to enjoy the game again.

  • Is there any update on the performance issues? I have a 3700x and a 6800xt and am getting 40~60fps in the Tangled Shore. Its now the 27th of Feb and there has been no updates on this in the last few game updates.

    • So, this is it? no mention anywhere since January, no hope messages? Us with a 6000 series cards will just have to move on after all the money we "invested" in this game?

    • It's not funny anymore! Such a large number of players cannot play due to a known issue. And most likely the problem is in the new lighting. Developers, make it possible to disable it. Or write something. Fix your own game! Every day you are losing people loyal to you.

I went from about 80 fps to 110fps on the Tangled Shore after the 3.0.2 update. I was easily hitting 144fps pre-BL, but is was nice to see some improvement. Hopefully we'll get another fix soon that will get everyone back to their respective performance before BL. PC specs gpu: RTX 2080 cpu: i7 9700k RAM: 16gig 3200mhz Monitor: 1440p, 144hz

    • I am surprised people started complane about performance only recently, since shadowkeep i had fps drops and gpu 60% load on some locations with no reason, like mars, tower and some more.In BL Tangled Shore kill my gpu like 40% load and 40 fps,it's unplayble,my hardware is more then enought(vega 64+ryzen 2600)even when i look on some locations throught a wall-it's like slideshow, obviously it's game's problem, drops fps when u are in pvp lobby are terrible, when u launch same map in private-all great, but with peoples-so laggy, hope bungo will do something with their net code or whtvr

      • Same issues here since Beyond Light release... Ryzen 5900X, Radeon Vega 64, Asus Crosshair VII, 32GB of PC3600 RAM. (Latest BIOS, drivers etc.) Running 1440p uw, used to get 100+ fps, now average in the 80's with dips down into the 50's in certain areas (particularly Tangled Shore and EDZ). Bungie and/or AMD, plz fix :(

        • Fired up Destiny 2 today on my PC with a 2700x and a 1070. Never had any issues in previous weeks and game was fine 2 days ago. I am unable to load into ANY activity or load into the tower. Game gets stuck on black screen AFTER orbit loading screen. Only thing that I have changed on my end is updated to the latest Nvidia graphics drivers today. Also experiencing severe shuddering on in menus.

So. New patch today. Launch game. 141 fps (locked) as it should be. Load up the "HELM". still at 141 fps. Alt tab back and forth, still at 141 fps. Go to the war table and complete some of the weekly challenges, talk with clan mates in chat, exit UI... FPS now at 69! Go down the stairs on the right side (dark room, leads to a locked door) fps is at 58. I turn around and walk up to the light area, fps at 62. I look at the war table from the direction of the stairs, fps at 62. I alt-tab to write this post, and at this point I return, Fps is at 72. Go down the dark stairs again, fps up to 80. Open Umbral Decoder and decrypt an engram, get a chest piece, inspect it, fps down to 59! .. what the actual f...

            • My Issues (2 scenarios may happen whenever I launch d2): 1st scenario (A crashy mess): Loading into most Landing Zones and Activities (most noticeably, Europa, Cosmodrome, EDZ) of planets (even HELM and Tower) drops my FPS to an irritating stutter. It takes a while but eventually it recovers to my usual FPS, but the process repeats the next time I have to load into a Landing Zone or Activity. (Crucible though, seems to be the one least affected by this with no FPS issues at all). What I wrote above is what happens IF I actually load in. Many times instead, the game brings me to a black screen where I'd have to wait for it to either: crash so I can launch it again/load in with that FPS stutter. 2nd Scenario (Beet codes everywhere): Prior to Season of the Chosen, I have never received this code once. Now whenever I get this scenario I receive this error code about every 1 in 3 times I try to load into anything (even crucible). The code just sends me back into orbit and the most noticeable difference compared to scenario 1 is that the load time for anything is significantly longer for some reason, also apparently the only upside to this is that there are no FPS stutters, my character enters into activities and LZs without issue (excluding the long load time) Additionally, I've encountered the chicken error like a hundred times now where I'd have to exit the game, clear my cache, turn off and reconnect my wifi in order to get rid of it. Bungie it would be great if you guys looked at this.

              • This is getting worst after recent patch.. Seriously. Battleground usually I get 90+120fps. Now I dips below 60. To confirm, I went to Tangled Shore which I usually get 80+95 fps.. now its 65-70.. WTF. I'm still using the same old Radeon driver (20.4.2) Anyone tried updated their drivers to the latest version? Maybe Bungie secretly included a performance patch but instead of fixing it, just made it worst?

Hi, Apart from the comments of one guy, it seems that other games have the same problems as Destiny, so it would be a driver problem. https://community.amd.com/t5/graphics/rx-6800-xt-low-gpu-usage/td-p/443993 And also optimizations So Amd and Bungie ... When are you going to react?

                    • For y'all Radeon users. Adrenalin 20.4.2 seems to be more stable and raises significantly the GPU usage, thus improving FPS. Here's the link. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-4-2 -blam!- you Bungie.

Quit the lying. Us high-end users are still -blam!-ed. No improvement at all. Be transparent, you have no idea what's wrong with your game don't you. RX 5700 XT and Ryzen 5 3600x dipping below 40 fps. Are you kidding me? I got a -blam!-ing 144hz monitor to play your damn game, which is beyond -blam!-ed this season with your shit ass stasis fiasco. I wouldn't even mind your broken ass mechanics if I could at least play the -blam!-ing game. I spent $1,000+ on my PC upgrade for YOUR game. Fix your shit. Now. This is completely unacceptable and clearly, you don't give a flying shit about your player base. Fix Your Broken Game

                        • For anyone who has an AMD graphics card (6xxx but also older generations since there is a driver release that somewhat fixes the issue and this is a really useful piece of information), please report the bug to AMD using this form https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form And in addition file a bug report directly within Radeon Software (under settings -> system -> issue report) Especially the second one will go directly to the Radeon drivers team, but also the first one will make the support rep file the report to the drivers engineers. If enough of us do this, the bug will raise in priority and there’s a chance AMD engineers will start looking at the issue.

Unless some streaming ** talks about this issue, Bungie will not do anything, nor will there be any media pressure on them to fix it. So, if you know any of those sobs, now is the chance to make them do good.
