Have you tried equipping another weapon then re-equip this one? Have you tried inspecting the weapon perk screen?

Yeah I tried all that. But I was able to fix it the following way: I restarted the quest with another character and played up to the same point, then transfered the legendary reward weapon over and with this one equipping and inspecting it registered
