Cleric is a class of spell caster, Necromancy is a school of magic.
Clerics can be Necromancers, but they can be other things aswell.
Bards, Wizards, and Sorcerers can also be Necromancers, and they are not Clerics.
I don't think Warlocks have a way of acquiring Animate Dead without multi classing though.

Yeah, I should have said Life clerics. But, as Arcana, Warlocks can learn Create Undead, Danse Macabre, and Finger of Death so technically, they can become pseudo-necromancers later in their campaign.
-
Without Animate Dead they can't really make an army though. It's just not the same, it's like they just dabble in the hobby without fully committing.
-
You can create an army with Finger of Death. It's actually one of the best spells for it - there is no duration, so your army can grow forever.
-
But it takes forever to grow it and you get the spell later.

Eh, you're right. They could only make and army of up to 12 ghouls or around that power level, but they could bolster their troops with Danse Macabre to get 10 more smaller undead, but only for a few minutes. True necromancers can have like 50+ supercharged troops filled to the brim with negative energy, and adding to that they can steal undead from other people. I know what character I'm making next
