<EDIT: there is no supporting evidence to be found in post 2014-context. The Taken as of TTK are something different, and not their original design. The only possible link outside of being told is one bit of concept art, but I'm suspect of that one.>

<I don't know much of what was there originally. In fact, I know so little that I'm still not even sure if things people talk about like "Rasputin was captured in the Dreadnaught" or "the Exo Stranger was Osiris's assistant" are actually true. Still, bits and pieces slip through the veil of time and I manage to snatch them before they dissipate. The Taken were, originally, supposed to be the Darkness. They were the 5th race. All Darkness-related stuff you see in D2 was made more recently. Especially what we've seen in Y3. There aren't really any hints in modern context that support this, only the tiniest bit of concept art, if that at all. Point is, the original D1 story is shrouded in mystery and as far as I'm aware no one, me included, has seen all of what was to be except those who made it. Only shards slip in, and only a little at a time.>
