I honestly cant see the reason why they would have to remove it.
Now sure, they want to cut down on file size, and there is a lot to the entire area, but they could easily just update it to work with what we have,
If they cut out the ascendant realm, all that leaves is the normal area.
Past that its just textures that are left and honestly id be ok if it was changed to fit what is being added.
Id even be ok with a completely white room with black outlines.
It just has to stay.

In a few months we can have it back...
It'll cost 500,000 bright dust
we probably will have to regrind everything again...

time to start grinding then

The file size is BS, it’s coding. The most popular game in the world ( COD ) is nearly 2x the size and they aren’t cutting shit.
-
Eso has never removed anything from the game it still functions just fine. And the content drops are 20x better and more flushed out than anything destiny has ever done. All with a way smaller team and less budget
-
Cod also doesn't plan to continue being a game without a sequel for over year much less at least 3 more that d2 plans. Sunsetting is to solve future issues not exactly current ones.

Oh I know. But it’s 228 GBS. Destiny could squeeze in 3 more 40GB expansions and it would be the same size. Plus it’s next gen so games should be getting scaled up and not down. Point being...they could include all content past and future and not hit a file size that isn’t already in the ecosystem. But I do understand why they are doing it. It gets rid of all sorts of size and performance issues ( hehe ) and they can always re add it later which I’m sure they plan to do.

Its partly the code not being properly optimized, but its also partly due to textures and the world. The game has to have textures for all gamers, which means it needs everywhere from 360 to 4k. Now, there is a lot of up and down scaling involved, but at its core a 1080p texture is 1/4th the file size of a 4k one.

This. I played games 10 years ago that were as large as or larger than D2 in terms of file size and they had no issues.
