So tired of this rhetoric. It’s not a super balanced e-sport, no. That’s not what it was ever supposed to be and when they went down that road with vanilla D2, they almost killed it. The PvP aspect of them game, however, is fun and unique and there’s nothing wrong with enjoying it or taking pride in your stats. The ones who ruin it are the ones who “stat farm” or believe they’re something special but even worse than that is possibly the ones who arrogantly proclaim that your stats on any game are more important than on any other.

 • The game can be competitive as a contest of build-strength....as you get in MOBAs and the pvp of many MMOs. The Crucible is very fresh and a unique blend of physical skill and strategy/adaptability. Especially during the days of Destiny 1. The “problem” is many shooter gamers want it to be a contest of gun skill and shooting accuracy...and this game will never be that as long as it is inextricably intertwined with a loot game and power-fantasy game on the pve side. Crucible made a bad choice, imo in trying to be the latter kind of pvp. Sniffing out the flame of what was unique about the entire game, breaking PvE (which is still trying to recover) and nearly destroying the franchise in the process. Gambit was a good effort to become the former. The problem is that it’s built on an open-world approach to the pvp...and that approach is always very divisive and polarizing. People either love it, or they hate it with a passion. With very little middle ground. Part of Titanfall’s success and why it is so respected is that it never tried to be a contest of shooting accuracy. It is a game of speed, movement and positioning. It leaned into its core identity and what it did well and didn’t try to be something it wasn’t. Crucible continues to flounder because it’s trying to hard to be Halo. A rabbit trying to slow itself down so it can be a better tortoise.
