I don’t think it’s competitive but, I think it could be or at least could be more competitive than it is now. There’s two types of people who agree with op, those who thought like me and those who think that because it’s not competitive it should be easy so their once a month quest should be easier. I think the second group is the bad players. (Just clarifying I don’t think I’m good so don’t say I think I’m some pvp king)

It’s debatable trials isn’t competitive at all because of so many things but in sweat rules you take all the cheesy stuff out making it more competitive

KD DOESN'T mean a lot and doesn't tell the complete story. Smallest example why, is because I like caping zones even though 6 players are rushing me. Or I like taking two guys with me in comp to give me 2 mates a 1v2. Besides my account is shared with my little bro who plays for fun. I am definitely not the greatest but I did take the game seriously in Shadow Keep and you can see that I was top 2% in comp. That is the actual skill meter, elo, aka skill based matchmaking. Which puts me regularly in streamer lobbies... Until I stopped playing competitive because of lack of rewards.

Those are all some of the biggest names in competitive D2 streaming. Cammy is even considered the best D2 player of all time, by a LOT of people. I don't see how their opinions mean anything more than anyone elses, but some folks will always bring their opinions up as if they're the deciding factors on all things Destiny. That's why you get people saying the infinite sticky spam with Oppressive Darkness on Sentinel is considered an "elite strategy". All cause Frostbolt said it was a good build. It's not elite at all, it's cheap and easy and boring, but Frostbolt said it was good, and so people think that means it must be high-skill play. Hero worship is stupid.
