Wifi is very susceptible to packet loss & interference...thus creating a potentially laggy connection. Thus, why you can’t judge your connection simply based on the speed/bandwidth alone.

Thanks for the reply. So while I notice no lag others might. So I can play any game, including red dead 2 online for goodness sake, but not Destiny 2. Uh huh.
-
Correct. Most lag comes from an upload perspective...thus, why others may see it & you wont. Also, other games do not have the same connection setup/requirements as destiny (or even other games for that matter). So comparing your connection in Red Dead, CoD, etc isnt a fair/accurate assessment to how your connection in D2 is handled.

But would seem to indicate that bungie's setup is a fine 20th Century effort.

Bungie’s setup works fine for the 10s/100s of thousands (I would likely be correct even saying millions overall) of players who don’t get restricted. So, no it’s not Bungie’s setup causing this. Could having dedicated servers help? Sure, but it won’t resolve all problems. Even CoD (which has/had dedicated servers in the past) had laggy players.

I hope you feel the same way if/when it happens to you after you have been running the same setup for many years with no problem in this or any other game.

Edited by dc213baseball: 9/17/2020 6:33:31 PMI absolutely will/would feel the same way....as my response to you is the same that I give to anyone else in your predicament. And if I were to get restricted, I would know that something is deficient in my connection & I must assess/address it as best I could. Most games these days tell you that you should avoid playing on wifi if at all possible. Why? Simply due to the amount of data that is transmitted back/forth. The wired connection gives you the highest stability/quality signal to transmit it with as little loss/interference as possible. Now I know you said your ps4 is hit with the firmware bug....have you attempted to see if there’s a firmware update or reinstall that can be done to alleviate this? Have you talked to ps support?

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, thank you. I have not been restricted yet, just warned. I may go back to Sony again about the firmware but got nowhere last time. Go well guardian.

You’re welcome. Best of luck to you with this.

So here's the thing. I installed a ssd last month. Which requires, of course, installing the operating system from scratch . I plugged in the LAN cable an hour ago. It has not yet disconnected. I have just tempted fate by writing this...

If the wired connection continues to work without issues, that could be an indication that the WiFi functionality on your router is failing. I had this happen a few years ago with an older router. Most thing worked normally, like websites, and streaming video, as a brief drop in the wireless signal wouldn't be noticeable there, but Destiny would disconnect on my Xbox that was on WiFi. Meanwhile, the one that was wired would work with no issues at all. If you have any way of testing a different router to see if the WiFi is any more reliable, it may be worth doing, to see if you may need to replace your current router.

That's very helpful, thank you. I'd not considered that it could work seemingly without issue but there being an underlying problem. Wouldn't it also appear on other PvP games like red dead? It passed the router tests but perhaps they don't pick it up.
