It is clear that feedback on the forums will only go so far for a company that places all their stock in influencers, be they streamers or journalists or whatever. The common fan doesn’t seem to matter anymore. So I’ll continue to chip in my thoughts on the occasional thread, even though my desire to visit these forums grows fainter with each month I haven’t played the game. Which is my long way of saying the “buycott” is only real leverage I can expect to have with Bungie at this point. For the first time in 23 years I’m not interested in spending my money on them.

  • If you think the common fan is coming to the forums to "vent" you're sadly mistaken. While some post do get some type of response, this is just the "very" vocal minority.

  • Tell me, how did you come to that conclusion?

  • Scroll through maybe 40 posts and 50 comments in each post, you start seeing a lot of familiar names. If you look at avg player base, than you shouldn't come across the as many of the same people as you do currently. The forums on most games are the same way. Not hating on people who have an opinion but its a bit of an echo chamber in here

  • Aside from the Lore section, most posts are some form of feedback. Some are constructive ideas, gameplay concerns, and (more often now) players venting about how they don't feel that Bungie is hearing/addressing their concerns. In response, I see a mix of "complainers" AND "apologists." IMO, the Bungie forums pulls in a particular type of fan, many of whom have been playing for a while and are probably more committed than the average Redditor. I agree in some ways. The forums attract a subset group of players who 1) want to communicate with Bungie and 2) don't have a huge social media account (streamer, YouTube, etc) to do so. Most people won't peruse a game's forums if they're not invested. Personally, a lot of what I see here reflects what I hear in-game. Clans are disbanding due to inactivity. People are leaving to play other games, while others are hanging on to hope and faith in Bungie. Long story short, there are real problems with Destiny 2 right now... Even the die-hard day 1 D1 "content" creators who literally depend on D2's success, express many of these same concerns. It's just intellectually dishonest to assume that the general sentiment we see on the forums is representative of a minority of fans.

  • I guess I'm equating fans and players. But numbers is all they are interested in and thats why this game has trended to a more casual way of play. True fans ARE a minority in the grand scheme of things and I do believe there are some genuine posts but there are a lot of toxic posts too.

  • So true... there’s tons of “negative” feedback, but also a good deal of internet toxicity (insults, personal attacks, F*** you’d, etc). I think that just makes it more difficulty for folks to hear actual feedback. Bungie’s biggest challenge and threat, imo, is with how they gather and implement feedback (if they even do that). Either way, their community will be what they make it. It’s always easier to blame someone other than one’s self.

  • I would argue the the people on this forum and other dedicated fan sites are the only true fans. I agree that most players/customers aren’t joining communities focused on the game but that’s exactly because they aren’t fans. Those people are just customers and they have no real personal investment in the game.

  • Look at it from Bungies point of view than. For them, it looks like the game is going well other than when the obvious happens (aka. Felwinter door glitch) I would love to see more people interacting in the forums with rational points of view. Other than the few posts that actually gain traction, alot of them are negative and dont invoke thought out conversations. You see the same thing on Twitter too. However, it doesn't all fall on us as gamers either. I wish they would take polls or something that way the good ideas get pushed forward. I think there is some power trip element at Bungie, that were it to go away, this game would trend in a healthier and positive way. They just need to get out of their own way

  • Just being negative doesn’t make the feedback poorly thought out or invalid. If Bungie were smart they would pay more attention to the feedback on this forum because it’s honest. The customers that don’t communicate will be satisfied with anything because they aren’t invested in the game one way or the other. They’re going to play until something else catches their eye and be replaced by someone else who doesn’t really care. The people here tell them what’s good and what needs to improve. I don’t agree with all of the feedback but Bungie isn’t even interested and that’s about as tone deaf as you can get. Cozmo or one of the other community managers should have responded to this thread and tried to get to the heart of the issue through IM. You know the didn’t. That’s foolish.

  • I meant negative as in toxic with the typical responses you see. I guess I couldn't think of the word until now :). Agreed that feedback is a mixture and will always be that. You're right they should be more involved in these forums. It almost seems that its a ship without a captain at this point but has some weird overseer that doesn't let things like that happen. To be a fly on the wall in that place, could only imagine what happens

  • I’ve thought for a while now that Bungie only maintains this forum in order to quarantine the negative feedback. They participate more actively in safe spaces like the reddit where negative feedback is silenced. They really only respond to the community when the frustration starts to boil over and into the broader community.
