With regards to "titans need help," they just need to be more diverse.
Look at hunters: a class for melee, a class for range and a class for utility.
Then look at titans:
A class for punching that melees with the super, a class for punching that you melee with a shield, and a class for punching but they throw hammers in super.
They are just...so much of the same that you don't even need to worry about playing differently.
And that's what hurts them in crucible and pve as a whole.
Theres no mixing up your playstyle to suit specific situations, it's all just clap and smash.
Which isn't a bad thing because theyve greatly accommodated titans specialty well by making it strong...but it's boring and predictable.
I get it, the big dumb "book upside-down" punching -blam!- should specialize, but ones GOTTA not be like a drooling idiot.

Side note: I have some ideas geared toward enhancing subclass identity moving forward.

I agree with you to an extent. I play all three classes, and Titans pretty much revolve around melees, which don't offer much in PvP unless they're ranged. I think Titans, Hunters, and Warlock subclasses need more identity in both PvE and PvP. Imo, almost every Hunter subclass has a niche role in PvP... but there are way too many flatout pointless subclasses when it comes to PvE (Wraith, Outlaw, Wind, and Current). Titans, like you said, don't differ much in PvE. Close range meleeing is just outright bad in difficult content, so they have to rely on supers/nades or OP seasonal mods to be viable. They need more close range survivability than the other classes imo. Warlocks have some great PvE classes... but have been nerfed to nothing in PvP. Everything except Sky is weak or super niche.. and even Sky's super is lackluster.
