Blaze shows off a grin, and walks in wearing sunglasses and a large brimmed hat. “Cara!”

Cara squints at Blaze, then a look of recognition comes over her face. She stands up straight and wipes her hands over her apron. She doesn’t seem to notice Blaze’s fangs yet. “Blaze! I almost didn’t recognize ye beneath all o’ tha’ headwear. How are ye? Wha’ brings ye ta Kleinton?”
-
“I’m good!” Blaze takes off his hat, but keeps his sunglasses on. “Been working on a house, but I needed to kill some time to wait for night, so I decided to pop on by!”
-
She offers a smile, then gestures to the counter behind her. “Well, I’m glad ye decided ta visit. It’s been a long while since I last saw ye! Can I get ye somethin’? Buildin’ is hard work, indeed.”
-
Blaze sits in a seat at the counter. “Hm....I’ll take some coffee if you have it. So how have you been?”
-
Cara nods and is quick to start fixing Blaze a mug of coffee. However, she seems a little distracted, and as she pours, the steaming liquid overflows and pours out over the counter. She mumbles to herself before wiping down the sides of the mug with a clean cloth and handing it to him. “Ta be honest with ye, lad,” she says in answer to his question, “haven’t been runnin’ as smoothly as o’ late. Now, wha’ makes ye work on a house in the dark? Just makes tings harder, metinks.”
-
“That’s not good, and uh....” Blaze coughs. “I like the night air?” He’s bad at lying.
-
She cleans off the counter hastily, and pauses to look up at him. A single brow arches skeptically, and she drops her cloth to cross her arms. “Ye might have skills in fightin’ off bandits, but yer lyin’ needs work. Come, now.”
-
Blaze glances around the inn, then looks at Cara. “Just....can you promise not to scream?”
-
She follows his gaze around the room, then gives him an odd look. “Scream? Why would I do tha’?”
-
Blaze quickly flicks his glasses up, to show his red eyes, before setting it back into place. He then shows his fangs. “That’s why.”
-
“Good heavens!” Cara exclaims. Her arms drop and she takes a step back. She stares at him for another uncomfortable moment, then cautiously leans forward. “Now, listen ta me, ye better not be here ta take piece out o’ anyone in me town.”
-
“I’m not here for that.” Blaze sighs. “Hopefully you can trust me on that.”
-
She still seems suspicious of his intentions. She suddenly reaches forward to carefully grab the rim of Blaze’s sunglasses, and lift them slightly above his brow. She continues to stare at him for a second, as though looking for any sign of a lie.
-
There are no signs of a lie, but he seems slightly worried and upset. “Please just beleive me, I’m not a monster.”
-
Cara’s face softens slightly and she lets go of his glasses. They fall crookedly on the bridge of Blaze’s nose. She crosses her arms once more and speaks in a hushed tone. “I believe ye. But I warn ye ta be careful. The folk around here don’ take kindly ta... yer kind. If I didn’t tink ye a fellow I would have turned ye in. I don’ recall seein’ he with fangs last we met.”
-
Blaze fixes his glasses. “Trust me, nobody takes kindly to it besides my friends. And....long story short I guess, what I assume to be vampire blood was splashed onto a knife embedded in my side while I was dealing with a vampire cult. In lighter news, I have a roommate on my ship.”
-
“Yer life never seems ta have a truly quiet moment, does it?” Though she asks like she doesn’t expect an answer, she seems genuinely curious.
-
Blaze laughs. “I guess not! Though I do have to be quiet when I......right Nevermind. Anything interesting happen around here recently?”

Edited by Gingiebread: 8/7/2020 5:54:46 AMA weary expression grows on Cara’s face. She doesn’t appear to be physically tired, but rather stressed or concerned. She stands up straight again to finish up cleaning her mess on the counter with one hand and waving at the room with the other. “Well, the town had a good frightenin’ a while ago with a stranger... the folk only recently stopped fussin’ o’er visitors from the outside, tinkin’ they were all villains an’ the like. Last few days have been rather peaceful, but now I’ve got a guest upstairs tha’s got me worryin’ all over again.”
Going to call it a night, I’ll be back tomorrow after work!
-
“Who’s the stranger, and who’s the guest?”
-
She hesitates, tossing the rag into a bucket on a table in the back. “A man in a grey cloak, he could control a swarm o’ wee beads the size o’ me nail. He... did some awful tings in his time here, though he seemed like a friendly fellow before. An’ the guest... she’s preparin’ ta stop ‘em, been staying a good portion o’ the day in her room.”
-
“So Errol and.....wait is the guests name Skye?”
-
Her brow pinches together. “Aye, ye’ve got ‘em both right. Ye have mind readin’, too, do ye?”
-
“Nope. I’ve delt with Errol twice before, and Skye is a friend of mine. I know she’s had to deal with him, and helped to save her when Errol almost killed her.”
-
“Ye were there?” She asks in surprise. “Good heavens, this is a small world. I’m glad ye helped her... shame Errol wasn’t caught. Now tha’ goober fer a lass has ta face ‘em again, an’ she’s got more nerves than a colt feedin’ on sugar cubes.”
