I understand where you are coming from. Umbral engrams are very effective at their jobs, however, reforging is not meant to be a replacement for loot farming. It is meant to be an alternative. Although farming for weapons and armor in the umbral engram loot pool it easy, there are still many items outside of that loot pool. Here is the example i'm going to give; I'm looking for a high handling 110 rpm kinetic hand cannon. there are really only two options Crimil's Dagger from iron banner and True Prophecy from the world drop loot pool. The issue is that trying to farm for either of the hand cannons are rather difficult since iron banner only rolls around once every four weeks or so, and the world drop loot pool is so big that it is almost impossible to farm for anything in it. In this instance it would a nice alternative to farm for materials instead and reforge the hand cannons I already have since it is so hard to get them. (Note: there are around 18 weapons in the world drop loot pool and around 7 armor sets. This means if someone wanted a single item form the loot pool it would be a 1 in 42 chance at just getting that item)
