Good post, interesting subject, very emotive at the moment. I had an epiphany today playing control. If is is casual fun where the outcome doesn’t matter - leave it cbmm and remove all stat tracking and game summary. Who cares what the k/d is or who who killed most if its just fun right?

  • Been saying this for a while, take away kd stats in quick play and a lot of problems are solved 🤷‍♂️

  • See, I kind of like the no stats idea. I’m more casual myself. I just don’t play enough to be good, and I don’t always want to use the meta to feel like I have a chance. The one issue I see with the OP’s idea is if the only difference in CBMM and SBMM is how hard it will be, your sweatiest players will take the easier road and go CBMM where they are more likely to get matched with lower skilled people. I saw youtubers complaining about how sweaty SBMM was in the normal play lists. Most I saw complain it wasn’t a connection issue. And now they have their way. Now those of us that feel like we’ve had the best game of our life on that rare occasion we go 24-12 will more regularly get matched with guys that routinely can go 34-3, even in the sweaty lobbies. Nothing is going to stop skilled players from going stomping so they can have fun. But those of us less skilled can feel less like crap if it’s not rubbed in our faces. There’s no perfect solution, but I like this one.

  • I think that works if the objective of the game is more team-based. For example in Overwatch, there's no personal stat padding to really do, and you can't really do exceptionally well trying to lone wolf it. The point is to win as a team. However most game modes in Destiny 2 really feel like they are pushing individual accomplishment over team accomplishment. Then you get everyone's stats thrown at you at the end of a game and you see who did well and who struggled.

  • Yup true - but taking control cbmm as the example its win or lose based upon control. No other stats needed, no k/d to make lesser able players feel bad, no top of the table most kills for the sweats to chase - focuses entirely on the team result. Some pvp games I play have this and you can forget about how many times you die and just have fun
