Actually, if anyone had followed the figures over the last couple of years you would know that this IB spike is no different to other IB spikes.
I don't care what lame articles with piss poor research by morons masquerading as journos say, the narrative of 'this IB is a PvP revival' is simply wrong.

And have no idea that by using Destiny Tracker PVP data they are automatically wrong. I miss guardian.gg tracking.

My post has nothing to do with SBMM or CBMM. I couldn't care less as to which of those gives a better D2 PvP experience. Figures only. Not SBMM. Not CBMM. I repeat "this IB spike is no different to other IB spikes"

It is different, because of CBMM. And to some extent we do agree that it doesn't matter what the articles say. IB was probably the worst SBMM experience in the game. There are a lot of people out there, whether other people want to admit it or not, that are playing because they removed SBMM. So yes, it is different. We are both free to have our opinions though

Yes, and no. My position is simply that there is no unusual IB spike, so how can there be reasons for something that does not exist. Now, maybe different players are dabbling in IB, maybe they aren't, but I don't think the info out there is sufficient to say either way. I see posts about CBMM/SBMM is great, CBMM/SBMM is crap, this IB is the best ever, this IB is the worst ever, this IB is balanced, this IB is mercy central, this IB sucks for solos v stacks, this IB has crap loot and loot drops, same as always really.

But there does seem to be more posts than before saying its much better. IMO those are from people who didn't play it before because of the SBMM and those are the people that many of us believe Bungie should focus on in terms of the way PvP is developed going forward. It may be a small number in the grand scheme of things, but its something that a lot of us think the devs should pay attention to. There's potential there, whereas with the people who are angry there's not much potential because they've been angry since D2 came out, and they will be angry when D3 comes out, and they won't be happy unless Bungie goes out of business. But the pinnacles and being able to turn in tokens to saladblend easily probably has something to do with it too. I'm not going to act like it doesn't because that was one of the reasons I didn't bother with it before. Tbh, any reasonable person should be able to admit its going to take more than one IB week to see be able to tell what's really going on. So you do have a point.

The questions that should be asked are simple. Is it because it is cbmm Or could is be for a different reason. How long is the quest chain in comparison to the rewards. I’m fully aware that iron banner is better for content creators and top tier players as well since they don’t have to sit in a queue for a long time but for the majority the answers will become clear as the season goes on. Personally I’m in favor of sbmm and if it was in classic mix that’s all I would play. Or if the core playlist was clash, I love a good team death match were I don’t have to rely on blueberries and objectives.

I just really feel like with what it turned into after they introduced Trials and that started pulling players from the other playlists that was more than enough reason to switch to connection based. It was an indefensible mess at that point where 9 out of 10 of a lot of peoples' matches wouldn't even end with the same people they started with. There just aren't enough people playing for SBMM to work right and when Trials and IB are both live it becomes even worse. Even comp is laggy on the weekends when trials and IB are live and it only has to factor 6 people instead of 12. No one should have to endure the kinds of low quality matches this game was producing after they brought back trials. If that means people have to get beat a little more in order for more people in a lobby to have shot registration, proper character movement, and for the game not to be constantly dropping players on purpose and then replacing them with join in progress, then unfortunately CBMM is by far the best option in terms of fairness.
