This is because, on most issues, bungie is correct in not listening to the vocal minority of morons that live on this board without playing the game.

They don’t listen to those who play either. Heck I have more than double your playtime and find this whole sunsetting thing a huge mistake. But I’m also a build crafter, so there is that to take into consideration as well, as players engage with content in different ways.

  • If you think about it there are really just a handful of weapons that seem to be driving the need for sunsetting. Mountaintop, recluse, etc... why not make those upgradable to exotics, and then we keep everything else?

  • Please give me your solution to damage perk + reload perk to make other perks close to relevant. As well as how many god rolls rely on these two perks types.

  • By making these exotic you eliminate mountaintop / recluse / anarchy loadouts. If it is still too strong these perks could be adjusted individually.

  • I even think them being exotic will alleviate some of the supposed stale PvE endgame that Bungie is using sunsetting for. It’s definitely an idea I would have picked first. I just think given how far we are into D2, and how much time we spent getting some of these things (heck both mountaintop and Not Forgotten took me over a year for each one individually, in the case of NF it took till Season of Dawn and Freelance Survival....), it’s just ridiculous to have all that time just utterly wasted. I know for some it’ll be business as usual come Sept. for myself, it might be the end of the journey. Still have not decided if it’s worth my time. I mean running solo a lot of the time definitely takes its toll on you. Honestly speaking I would have preferred a D3 total reset, including building the game up on a solid foundation from the start compared to how they 180’d on it. Would have picked up D3 at that point. But that’s just my preference.

  • Well I certainly play less than I used to. My clan is still going well, but we have a solid set of admins running things. I used to compete for first clears and speed runs, but simply can’t keep up with the grinding for those any more, and got sick of trying to herd some of the asshole type players you run into when you do those things. I think the game is still very fun to play. I really like pvp, especially this season it seems more exciting. I lost my best friends and my raid team to pc for the sake of 60fps. It will be interesting to see what ps5 brings and if I will be able to play with them again. I wonder how long bungie plans to run Destiny. (They should just call it that at this point.) VoG will be fun. But at this point we really need some truly new content. When we first got hooked on this game it was almost magical, and few of us really understood why. I think it was the flaws. Things like Titan flight. Despawning the enemies at the bridge. Sticking a trip mine to a phalanx shield. The perfect challenge of 3-manning vosik on heroic, or one-phasing the WotM entry. It has become old now with the same hive, fallen, cabal, vex, and their taken versions. We have not had a good new pvp map in a long time. It’s time for something new, but I don’t think sunsetting is the answer.

I did a few of those worlds first attempts, but it made me get very bored of the game too quickly. Plus I had one clan leader who got us up at reset for the vault re-release for worlds first in age of triumph, only for fighting and drama to cause a small implosion of the admin staff. Will never do that again. Just not worth the headache like you said.
I think the game is still very fun to play. I really like pvp, especially this season it seems more exciting. I haven’t had an actual stable Raid team since Wrath of the Machine, and that was when I was at the tail end of my Sherpa days, as they started falling off after a couple of completions. I’ve basically completed most of my raids with makeshift teams, made up of some clanmates or some friends needing one person for an exotic Run. Been basically a solo/clan hopper for over a year now, and most of the clans have just died out due to boredom, or I just didn’t get anything really done (ironically I was in yours for a short time, didn’t really accomplish much, then a buddy started up a clan and wanted me to help them, only for that clan to die in a couple of weeks. Been my luck, sadly.) Game has not been the same for me since losing all my long term friends. Friends that I know will not return.
I wonder how long bungie plans to run Destiny. Since I’m a RPG player first and foremost a friend introduced me to this game, and I saw the potential in a merged FPS/RPG thing, where yes it was an FPS but it had RPG elements that enticed me. From there, it was a lot about the raids/PvP/trials/IB, and the players/friends I have met along the way, on top of building my characters the way I want, at least best I could. D2 has kind of lacked in all that for me, honestly. Now that I’m basically on my own, I’m just seeing what a lot of the community as a whole has dealt with without having a group, and it’s not fun. Lol too bad I’m very introverted myself. Probably have kept grinding for anarchy if I wasn’t.
It’s time for something new, but I don’t think sunsetting is the answer.
I don’t think it is either. Honestly thought maybe a new Destiny game with a more stable foundation, with all they have learned over the years would have been the right answer, but that doesn’t seem like that’s in the cards at this point....

I’m with you on sunsetting. We really did work pretty hard for some of that gear, and why not let people use it if they want to. I do understand the game design considerations and the desire to keep things new and exciting, but regrindung the same Swarm of the Raven I already have is really annoying. As for builds, they do seem to be improving the ability to formulate some interesting loadouts. I hope that continues.
