Sunsetting isn't fun, but it's not nessesarily the wrong thing to do. The problem is that it's an undesirable fix to a problem Bungie created. Bungie overused a technic called Accretion. The result was the game became bloated. Sunsetting was supposed to "reset the clock" and allow Bungie to reclaim the design space they lost through their prior poor decision making. The part that makes Sunsetting bad is that's not why they're doing it. Reissuing old gear goes completely counter to that reasoning and shows that Bungie was disingenuous in their explanation. Bungie is using Sunsetting to recycle content as a method of reducing development costs and overhead.

  • I hope you realize that the bungie forums are a loud minority and the majority of the community actually wants sunsetting. Want me to help you pack too? Good riddance.

  • And where are you getting that from? Because you want it, everyone else does too? I've definitely seen a lot of people on YouTube, twitter, Reddit and these forums complaining about sunsetting. I think it's safe to say you're wrong in this instance

  • Sunsetting is bad, I have 450+ weapons I grinded months to get the rolls I wanted and now they are useless in 99% of the activities I spent my time playing (Gambit prime, nightfalls, raids and iron banner with the ocasional trials). First season i did not bother to get pass of even log in after I saw this sunsetting BS. Lost all reason to play...

  • Tbh I’d love to know how many of those supposed 450+ you actually use.

  • A lot of people actually use a wide variety of different individual weapons, believe it or not. Ever since the game devolved and made generic bounties the main gameplay loop, I and most other people I know make our own entertainment by completing the never ending monotony of “kill x number of x using x in x” by trawling through our vaults or collections for obscure weapons to fit the weapon type required for those bounties. By doing this over the past few months I’ve grown quite fond of a hell of a lot of guns that were previously insta-shards to me. I think I know what you’re going to say next; “all those weapons will still be viable in patrols, just not for endgame”. Am I right? Maybe not. I see that argument a lot though and it’s bullshit. When has bungie ever released an expansion with a new destination and not had the enemies level in line with the new seasons cap. Along with the fact that almost half of the current destinations will be removed, it stands to reason that sunset weapons will not just be obsolete in endgame, but in the majority of the other base content as well.

  • Sunsetting isn’t getting rid of archetypes my dude. Chances are, there will still be several weapons from each archetype still available next season. Across 450 different weapons, there will be an INCREDIBLE amount of overlap. Nothing is really being lost.

  • Maybe so, maybe not. Remains to be seen. If I were to base my expectations on past and current practises by Bungie, I wouldn’t be hopeful, but like I said, remains to be seen. I’m just pointing out that it’s a fallacy to argue sunsetting isn’t a problem because people don’t use most of the weapons they have anyway. Many people do, and, at its absolute core, isn’t that kind of the whole point of Destiny? The choice of being able to use whatever you want, whenever you want, as long as you’ve put the time and/or effort into obtaining it? I’d like to be as optimistic as you are pal, I genuinely would. But when it comes to the ability to consistently and even semi-regularly put out desirable weapons, Bungies track record in the past few years has been lacklustre at best. With the sheer quantity of weapons being sunset as a function of weapons that aren’t, there’s some archetypes of guns being absolutely decimated.

  • Bruh. Most weapons from each of these seasons have been good weapons.

  • With the exception of last season I agree. How many of the them though? I’m sorry but at the very least each season after the first round of sunsetting has to add at least one weapon of each archetype of every weapon type of sunsetting is going to be in anyway acceptable. Can you see that happening? And I’m not talking about reissues either, which for me is the crux of the problem, I’m talking new and desirable weapons.

Depends, some i keep because I feel they will eventually be improved over patches like all my assault rifles for the last 2 seasons (Which got a massive buff on season of the worthy) and some I keep for the impossibility of getting it again like the imperative scout riffle which I think i only used once and did not like it but most I used all the time (Obviously not at the same time, but they saw regular play often). I used to change loadouts every match/strike to try out new combinations and the ones most fun i used more frequently, for example I did one with a no turning back bow combined with a thin line hand cannon (That took me 600 lost sectors to farm) with quick-draw and opening shot, fired an arrow then quick drew the HC to finish the enemy in iron banner, not very meta since a close opponent with a shotgun would eat me alive but very fun to use. I also like to play nightfalls with various combinations of smgs (Best one was Atalanta-D XG1992 and a bug-out-bag, the later I got without farming to much but the former took FOREVER doing forges) or auto riffles (Reckless oracle worked very well, did about 20 garden raids to get one with the perk and other ones i wanted) with auto loading holster to never stop to reload and I tried many double sniper builds for the scourge of the past raid until I found one using my favorite sniper (Long goodbye, which I think is definitely not meta/pinnacle and took me 200 insight terminus across many months to get 2 rolls I wanted for pve and pvp) combined with tranquility (Moon sniper which I had to do the bounty for about 100 times to get one god roll for PVE, thankfully the pvp dropped much faster). Now gambit prime is my main laboratory for build testing because is my favorite mode and I can test both pvp and pve viability while having fun (And guess what, is a light relevant activity meaning all my builds will be worth shit next season). I can go on a long time (Feel free to ask me any other story about a gun nobody uses and I guarantee there is a high chance I used a fun build with it like the warden law, darkest before, trackless waste, abide the return, vouchsafe, optative, adhortative, goldtusk and many other guns most people never bother to test) but I think you get the idea, i like farming rolls and using them in builds, I test 80% of all weapons (Some are not good for current meta or there is no interesting roll so I do skip them) and I am aware not many players are like this, but by god tell me why you feel the need to defend bungie when they want my play-style erased? Does me farming and using variations of weapons makes the game worse for you in any way? I know different players have different play-styles but that's the point of PLAY THE GAME HOW YOU WANT IT! I will not criticize you if you are a collector player, casual player, a fashionista player (Which tries to look the coolest and test all shaders and emotes), a meta player (Suros regime and mindbender user currently), a dedicated raider with dps build addiction (Putting every single reload mod for a dps machine gun) or a crucible trial sweat looking for the shortest time to kill even if it takes min-maxing your armor point by point but I will speak against any dev decision that will not allow you to play the game HOW YOU WANT IT and that's what sunsetting is. So please even if you are not a collector player try to put yourself into their shoes and get what sunsetting means for players like me. It took away all my reason to play the game and it makes me disappointed because I used to really enjoy playing destiny. I made friends on this game and I genuinely love it as a hobby and now I did not bother to even get the season pass neither feel any desire to log in and play because making gear expirable took the soul of the game out for me.

  • I would wager about 350 of them saw play often then. Give or take 15 depending on the season and what is currently usable or useless (Like assault rifles were once peashooters but now became hp shredders and grenade launchers were once fart guns but now are tactical nukes)
