With CBMM you can actually improve not just get the illusion of improvement. I’ll mention my experience because it differs from yours. I was a 1.2ish D1 player. D2 I was a 1.6ish KD, however I was playing controller and wanted to learn MK. (This would be my first FPS on MK). This happened in season of the worthy with SBMM matching me against my controller performance. I was getting destroy sub 1.0 KD every single game, finally got to a point were I was at 1.0 most games but I was still incredibly frustrated because I didn’t feel like I was making improvements past that. Flash forward to this season I am dropping above 2.0 regularly. In my case SBMM gave me the impression I was a bot on MK when I am not actually playing that bad. Still need a lot if work though but I can get better in CBMM not in SBMM.

 • That's really helpful to know. I'm an Xbox and have often wondered if my MK skills from all the Quake I played back in the day would still be there if I switched over.

 • That's a fallacy because sbmm matches you against a range of ability levels. You start at the bottom of the range and as you get better you progress toward the top until you eventually get bumped up into the next range of levels. With sbmm there are always going to be players better and worse than you, but not by huge degrees. So you won't face people who can effortlessly pubstomp you much but you also won't often face people you can easily dominate. Neither one of those situations is a very good way to get better. You don't learn to hit a baseball by facing Nolan Ryan. Let me ask you... when someone drops a 50 kill game who exactly do you think makes up most of their victims? It's for sure not the most skilled opponents on the other team. The whole "you can't get better with sbmm" is just another crock of shit put out there by pvp elites who come right out and admit that they don't want to have to play sweaty every game. But if their "get good" mantra is something they really believe, shouldn't they want the best possible competition every game? I'd have a lot more respect for them if more of them came right out and acknowledged they like to stomp. I guarantee they're laughing and bragging when they team up to do it. What it means for the casual player who bears the brunt of their fun and relaxation doesn't matter much to them. But the cbmm/sbmm emphasis pendulum has swung back and forth over the years and it eventually will again. We can only hope that someday Bungie will figure this shit out so both casuals can have some fun and elites will stop their whining.
