Be Heard - Black Lives Matter

Today is June 19th, a day of growing importance in the United States. It is recognized here as Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. On this date, in 1865, slaves in Texas celebrated as they were told for the first time that they were free, and slavery was no longer permitted. We at Bungie would like to take this opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth with you, no matter where you are around the world. During an event earlier this month, we spent 8 minutes and 46 seconds in silence to honor the death of George Floyd, and promised that we would commit more time, energy, and money towards the fight against systemic racism. We invite you to join us in that battle by showing your support and making your voices heard. Today we’re announcing the Be Heard Collectible Pin & Emblem. All profits from the sales of the Be Heard Collectible Pin & Emblem will benefit the Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org). Pre-orders will become available on the Bungie Store starting on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The exclusive Destiny 2 "Be Heard" emblem will be emailed to you within 24 hours after your order is placed. And while the real challenges that Black people face are not as easily vanquished as the enemies in our game, we look forward to seeing Guardians come together in this fight as well. As we said before, we are committed to standing up for our Black community; including our developers, fans, and neighbors. Together, we intend to replace injustice with equality wherever we see it. So eyes up Guardians, there's work to do. BLACK LIVES MATTER.

I've read the comments and I can see the willful ignorance in here. BLM doesn't say "only" BLM it says what it says BLM. Police Brutality has been rampant in the black and brown community's for generations and its only been brought to light because of the cameras. Thank God for the camera. Because you people would be still believing law enforcement over a person who is being wrongly convicted. You tired of the BLM movement we tired of the wilfully ignorance of those who choose to put there head in the sand on Police Brutality and justice inequality.

    • dmg04 you make some valid points and I agree that ever verse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

Hes also a practicing Christian When asked about the subject of black youths in the US, and how to solve it his answer was "where are the fathers?" And where are their fathers? Is he wrong? Also lil Wayne or whatwver his name is qas asked the same thing. He said that if blacka are so opressed how the hell did he become so famous?

        • To be truthful to myself and all, i learned that moments like these, racism and all that BS is what caused to tear the world apart. I chose to NOT care about it when im playing video games because this is used to bring people together playing a game without any of this going in the outside world. Needless to say, i despise the fact people cant seem to remember that we need to avoid bring it to the fold and keep seperate. We here to have fun, to bond with other gamers alike and make the best of our days in playing. That what the motto should be in any other game and this as well.

With this 💩 storm of a administration, and the love of the treacherous confederacy,l from him, we’re being lead down a dark path. #BLM #peace

                    • Kind of hard to ban them from the game when it’s the game maker who’s posting the stuff. I for one know I didn’t pay for a game, all of its expansions yet -blam!-ing again since we have to every time a new expansion comes out and the preorder of the next one just to here some real world shot on it. I got a game to play for fun not listen to politics.

The emblem is cool and all, but as others have said, "politics" is not where gaming should spend it's time. It's essentially advertising to a degree. We're in a much better spot for racism now than we were when it actually was a major issue. Stupidity from cops has led people to destroying property of others and looting. I can't believe with all the progress we've made over the past 100 years that we're now turning around and taking a hop-step-jump backwards. Charity/tragedy is one thing but there's so much negativity coming from this movement. I think you can talk about it if ya really want, but in a day and age so PC that North America kids can choose to change their genders, pronouns and a bunch of other freedoms for the sake of DIVERSITY, I don't see people having any need to be racist, nor could they afford to be. Not in a day and age were people are getting fired, going to court and getting harassed for something they did or said years ago before everyone took the self-righteous pill. To each their own I guess. I support the black community, but I refuse to be affiliated with destructive groups filled with hate. Hatred doesn't solve hatred, it fuels it. I'm more worried about the people living in the communities that are being destroyed. Stay safe.

                    • Equal Justice Initiative? I rather the money go directly to feeding the victims of black on black violence or the less unfortunate currently struggling financially, thanks to the pandemic. Bungie trying to earn a few token points does not make them look good at all. Really fellas, a video game emblem?

                    • Interesting how the post regarding the streamers misconduct because it violated terms of service was deleted yet this one stands. Surely if one post is allowed then the other should be. I can only assume that it’s one rule for bungie and another for the players or maybe highlighting the other issue brings unwanted negative attention to the destiny brand.

Here's how I see it: there are many holidays that the gaming industry acknowledges within video games, that are political in terms of their history, yet which no one objects to. Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Columbus Day are a few examples. For the sake of consistency and sincerity, either we do away with acknowledging all political holidays in-game or we accept all of them without hypocrisy. To sanction some over others is hypocritical. We should come to a consensus that all types of politics are off limits or they're accepted. Which one is it gonna be? I say this for the sake of unity.
