Icarus Descent Pt. 2

Chapter 2: Rise [Vanguard Report Log Loading] Subject: Exo, Male, Hunter Reason for Analysis: Found Dead Near Kupiter Belt. Memory Extracted From Corpse. The Memory is Shown as Follows: I sat in the darkness for what seemed to be hours. I listened to the hissing silence that surrounded me and drowned out any thoughts I tried to create. Finally, after ages of silence, Divy's voice spoke again, still distorted. "Rise, Javal. There are things you must see. Truths you must face." As the voice spoke, my ships hatch slowly opened, inviting me into the pitch black void. "No. Let me go! I am here on official Vanguard business." I lied. Suddenly, warped and distorted laughter rang out through the air, seeming to come from everywhere. "You cannot lie to us, Javal. We know your secrets. We know your thoughts. We know everything. Now come, step out of your vessel. Seek what you have came here for." The voice said. I peered out into the dark, trying to see if anything was laying in wait for me. But there was nothing but empty space. So, cautiously, I stepped out of my ship and walked forward into the dark. And without warning, I was standing in a hallway, red lights illuminating the corridor. I turned around to see if my ship was still there. But I was met with a metal wall. "Thank you, Javal. We're very happy to see you can be trusting. It contrasts from your normal personality, however." The voice said, still missing from my sight. "What are you talking about? Where are you? Who are you?" I asked in desperation, terrified of the place I was in. "We are truth. We are lies. We are joy. We are pain. We are everything and we are nothing." The voice said. "I don't understand!" I said, turning myself around and around, looking everywhere to see anything of life. "You will. You will. Step forward, please. There is much to see." The voice said. I stood still. Whatever this thing was that took Divy's voice, it was evil. I could feel the darkness seething out of it's voice. "Step forward, Javal. Now." The voice demanded, punctuating the last word. I slowly stepped forward. And to my left, not far ahead from where I stood, the wall itself separated, revealing a room inside the walls. "Step inside, Javal. Truth lies within." The voice said, this time echoing down the red hallway. Against my better judgement, I stepped inside the room. [Memory Ends] "Hmm. Are there any other files to extract?" Commander Zavala asked. "Yes, sir. Just let me find the next one." The engineer said, fiddling with the Exo's brain. Zavala stepped away from the operating table and looked out of a window, gazing upon the smoldering ruins of the Almighty. Zavala slowly breathed in and quickly breathed out. Though Rasputin had succeeded in destroying the Almighty, the same could not be said for the strange Pyramid ships that loomed over Io. It troubled Zavala deeply. It shook his faith in the ability to win. "What are you doing?" A familiar voice asked. Zavala turned to see Eris Morn at the doorway of the room. "Ah, Eris. We were examining the memory files of this Exo. It seems that he visited one of these Pyramid like ships without our notice." Zavala said, returning to the table. "Why are you pouring over his memory with such carelessness?" Eris said, shoving the engineer out of the way, examining the files herself, gritting her teeth in some form of worry. "They could prove useful in finding a weakness in the plan these dark omens." Zavala said. "And you have not considered that these memories could be false. Traps set by the darkness?" Eris said, slowly backing away from the console, caressing the hive auraed Ahamkara bone in her hands. "We have considered this. And we are willing to take the risk. If this is a trap, it will only solidify a doom that will be inevitable if we cannot find a weakness. Play the next memory." Zavala said as Eris walked out of the room. The memory reader whirred to life as the Exo's dead body jolted upwards. "Let's see what you're hiding..." Zavala said as he peered at the screen, ready to find the secret of the Pyramid ships.
