Bungie's Absolutely Embarrassing Ban Process

I'd like to introduce myself. I am a programmer that conducts my own research regarding mangling binaries and working to create reverse-engineering centered work. I am a hobbyist college student who is not employed for a company, and I do not run any cheat related services. That being said, last night I was testing my own software and I had used a multi-use program called "Extreme Injector" in order to inject a binary I created into a test program. Extreme injector is simply a DLL injector, an extremely useful tool that can be used for a multitude of software, but sadly is common for injecting possibly malicious code into video games. However, a lot of software out there can currently do that, and there is good and bad uses for much of this type of software. I had never touched Destiny as a process, and I never injected ANYTHING into Destiny 2. What I did inject was a piece of non-malicious shell code into my own process while Destiny 2 was running in the background. I was permanently banned the day after and I messaged Bungie kindly explaining my situation as a programmer hobbyist. I was hit with a copy and pasted reply that stated I was hopeless and could not follow up whatsoever. It read
Your appeal has been reviewed and considered. Due to the nature of the punishment you are appealing and the results of our review, your punishment is not eligible for an appeal. No further information will be provided. This appeal has been closed. Duplicates requests will be closed without further investigation.
I am absolutely amazed this is how Bungie treats their member base. I've spent over 300 hours and about $60-$70 on this game. I am a student and a hobbyist, and I explained my situation well enough. Bungie in their EULA states they can ban anyone for any reason without telling them why. They state there are "tools" that can get you banned, but they never tell you what they are. This is absolutely ridiculous haggling and I've never met a game that employed such an intrusive and cruel ban process. Even in the midst you are using software that doesn't touch Destiny, they can still perma ban you like this. TLDR: I never once have hacked Destiny or given myself an unfair advantage. I never once have injected anything into Destiny. I was banned because I had a multi-use program Destiny didn't like running while Destiny was in the background and I never even used this program functions on Destiny.

 • I’ve pasted something from 2017 below that you may find useful. From reading Bungies stance on the matter you were running something that could reasonably be described as a cheat tool at the same time as D2. Sadly, regardless of your intentions or other actions Bungie have long considered that a bannable action. Info below, taken from https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-pc-ban-cheat-software/ Bungie Community Manager Cozmo explained why the player had been banned, making it clear that the ban was no accident. Cozmo wrote, "We do not ban players for simply having cheat tools installed, but do ban for running them while playing Destiny 2." Moreover, Bungie does not "differentiate between cheat tools for Destiny 2 and cheat tools for other games because it would be easy to avoid a ban by making a Destiny 2 cheat tool that pretends to be a cheat tool for another game." In a follow-up comment on Reddit, Cozmo further explained that players will be banned for "repeatedly" running cheat engines in the background. As such, players should make sure to "turn all cheat tools off before running Destiny 2" so that they "won't have to worry about being banned for that."
