Icarus Descent

Chapter 1: Lift [Vanguard Report Log Loading] Subject: Exo, Male, Hunter. Reason for Analysis: Found Dead Near Kupiter Belt. Memory Extracted From Corpse. The Memory Is Shown as Follows: I looked down at Earth and threat city, flying high above the atmosphere in my jump-ship. I could see the Aurora Borealis rippling across the sky. It was a sight to behold. "Are you sure we should be doing this?" My Ghost asked in his whiny voice, the one he uses when he disagrees with my plans. "Yes, I'm sure. You saw the tracking maps in the bunker. Those things, whatever they are, are already in our system. And we're gonna scope out these Pyramid ships and report back to the vanguard." I said, punching in the coordinates for the edge of the known system. "But what if we can't handle these things. What if they over-power us? We don't even know what they're capable of." Divy, my Ghost, said, becoming increasingly frantic as his shell twirled about. "Calm down, you bag of nerves. We won't engage them, we're just observing." I said, checking to make sure everything was in place for the journey. "Okay. But if we die, I blame you." Divy said, settling down on the ship's dash. "Sure thing." I replied as we jumped to light speed, soaring through thousands of miles of the cosmos in seconds. Though we had done this many times, Divy and I still were amazed at the shimmering colors of the warp tunnel. Divy floated about the cockpit, admiring the beauty of our surroundings. "10 seconds 'til we arrive, so soak it in." I said, leaning back and enjoying the sight myself. "I just can't get over how mesmerising it all is." Divy said, finally resting on my right arm rest. The ship suddenly lurched forward, coming out of light-speed as I took the controls. And as I looked out into the vacuum of space, I saw it. The Black Edge. The Pyramids. "Divy, are these the things?" I asked, sweat beading down my forehead, as I thought that maybe I had gotten myself into something out of my reach. "Hello, Javal. We've been waiting." My Ghost said, his voice cracking and distorting as he spoke. "Divy, what's wrong with you?" I asked nervously, slowly descending into panic over my Ghost's odd behaviour. "You did not come here for the safety of others. You did not come here for knowledge. No. You came here for glory. Let us tell you a story, little light." Divy said, his voice warping more and more as my ship suddenly lurched forward towards the Pyramid in front of us. I tried to take control of the ship, but the controls were locked. We were in a tractor beam, being pulled towards the Pyramid ship. "There was a boy. His name was Icarus." Divy droned on as I desperately tried to yank us out of the tractor beams grip. "He was ambitious. Prideful. Insecure." Divy continued as I tried to activate the comms. "Attention, anyone, do you copy? I need assistance, immediatly, I've been caught in a tractor beam by a Pyramid anomaly!" I screamed. I heard a voice crackle through the radio. I listened intently. "So one day, he decided he was going to touch the sun." It was Divy's distorted voice coming through the radio. I turned to look at where Divy was floating before. He was gone. My ship neared the entrance to the Pyramid. "He planned carefully. He thought he knew what to do." Divy said through the radio. "Help!" I screamed, pounding on the glass of my jump ship's hatch. "But the sun was much more powerful than Icarus. And do you know what happened next?" Divy's voice asked as darkness enveloped me and my ship. I let out a faint whimper. "He fell. He fell far from the glory he sought." Divy said. And then,  everything went silent.
