New Light Players that are low in power and Umbral Engrams...
My brother is a 850 power guardian. He is working his way up. He has over 10 Umbral Engrams saved up but cannot cash them in to drifter until he completes the contact event which is rated at 990 power. How does one get around this to get the loot they need to progress and get the weapons they want? I don’t think it’s right that players that aren’t able to complete an event due to power level shouldn’t be able to use their engrams that dropped for them.

That's a shame, but really all you have to do is tag an enemy (doesn't even matter if they're immune) and you're counted in with the event. Therefore you can continue the questline. Also the mobs go up to 1040, there's a reason why it's recommended at 990.
