Because the weapon will be around for at least 9 months and MWing a weapon or piece of armor is just that much more umph the piece of gear has for its lifespan. If you don't want to do it, then don't.
D1 day 1 player myself, and dragging out a 6 year old quote from a company thats been through alot since then is just not a good argument.

Obviously you're not masterworking garbage, but that's a chance we all have, or you can not get any good rolls in 1-3 months for the full time period, as the countdown for sunsetting would presumably start with the start of the next season, not the very moment you get the weapon.
