I added Mo Ghille Mear to my rotation! It's such a good song, and great version of it. Twas a good trade of music.
-
Agreed! Now just to memorize those lyrics....
-
Yes! We'll get it...see you next century.. Mo go---no, that's not it...
-
xD We’ll figure it out eventually. I found some websites that wrote out the rough pronunciation of both songs (I think I found both, anyway). I should see if I can find ‘em again...
-
That sounds very useful. I should probably find something similar as well.

Edited by Gingiebread: 5/14/2020 11:05:09 PMOkay, so I didn’t find a site that had the pronunciation for Mo Ghille Mear, but I dug through my search history and found two for Óró ‘sé do bheatha ‘Bhaile.
As far as I tell, there’s only a few differences in how they have written the pronunciation, but I have no doubt you could still use either to help you hear the singer’s words more distinctly. One site is (in my opinion) more organized, and thus I can take a single screenshot and/or don’t have to scroll around all over the place to get to the verse I need. Depends on your preference :)
First site Óró ‘sé do bheatha ‘Bhaile (more organized/condensed): http://www.celticartscenter.com/Songs/Irish/OroSeDoBheatha.html Second site Óró ‘sé do bheatha ‘Bhaile (comes with a video of some men singing the song, though not the same version as the one you shared with me): https://www.kinglaoghaire.com/lyrics/353-oro-se-do-bheatha-bhaile
Aaaand I just thought I’d also share a site I found not long after a stumbled upon Mo Ghille Mear. It doesn’t tell you how to pronounce the lyrics, but it does have the lyrics there and the same video of that university’s choir singing it that you may have found on YT. Surprisingly, for Mo Ghille Mear, it was easier to start memorizing when I could read the lyrics as the song was being sung.
Mo Ghille Mear lyrics + video: https://songsinirish.com/mo-ghile-mear-ucd-lyrics/ I’m not sure if this helps you at all 😅

This is great stuff! Especially that first site, that will come in handy when learning to sing it, I can tell. Thank you very much!
-
You’re welcome! I’m glad it might be helpful! Good luck!

Now speaking of such songs, I noticed you listen to Amazon music, which is what I use as well (that and YouTube) and I found a really good album of Scottish songs from the Jacobite Uprising for free on there. It's called "The King Has Landed". 2, 4, 8, and 15 especially are really good.

Ooh, awesome! I’ll have to take a look. Thanks!
Sorry for late response, btw 😅

No problem! No rush on responding haha
Really? Hostiles on the Hill is awesome. And so is “My Stick”

Wouldnt say Hostiles on the Hill is on the top of my list, but My Stick is definitely a great one, too. I put down Seagulls because I have it memorized by heart lmho. And that list is only a sample of all my favorite songs. :P
Ha. Lucky you. I wish Hostiles on the Hill was on Apple Music.
-
That would be nice. I usually use Amazon Prime :)

“Poke you with my stick!”

I don’t want your stick ,-,
