Dear Bungie

Dear Bungie, Let's start this off by saying that I am a veteran Destiny player. I have not been playing since the release of the original game, but I came just in time for the Taken King and have been playing since. And, see, here's the thing: When I say I am leaving, please understand that it isn't because I am some special Guardian, I just think I have some points you could learn from. Here are a few disclaimers: -Not everything I will say will apply to every Guardian because, at the end of the day, it still is just my opinion. Downvote if you must or leave it alone, but I won't regret any of it. -Just because I have some criticism to give does not mean that I hate the game or you guys. In fact, I give a lot of merit to being able to build something on your own, finally, and it has been my pleasure to support that. While I haven't agreed with how you have always done things, I do see slow progression in the right spot. -Season of the Worthy is not the reason I am leaving... I don't think it would be rational to say that Season of the Worthy is so bad that all the players are leaving. In fact, I would say it is coincidence. The leave of Destiny has been a slow progression, with changes of mind happening often. The Red War was boring and there was nothing to do and Curse of Osiris made that worse. Then, in my opinion, Warmind came out with new content to really work for. And then... FORSAKEN! There were amazing changes there, and I was proud to be a player. I even got a bit out of the story, which made up for the lack of skill to defeat the Barons... because they were asking me what I would become from doing this. Dang. And the different ways that the Barons fought actually was odd and I died a few times getting killed by holograms (which makes no sense, but was neat). But, here is the thing: For me, Rose, the reason for the leave is what I thought I was getting. I wanted a story, Bungie. Instead of living a Guardian's life and conquering and struggling and growing and bonding, my Guardian has always been a blank-slate. I remember I watched an IHE (I Hate Everything) video that explained Destiny's story issue well when he said that the most interesting parts happened before our time. Even when there are new activities and weapons and armor, etc., there really isn't a clear answer as to why we do what we do. In fact, some people could have really cared less when Cayde-6 died because he was just a quippy vendor. Having a world like that with such deep history, but only really being able to understand it through poor Byf's long-standing videos, is incredibly disappointing. And how can I come back to the game later in my life? It's online, so there isn't much to love when Bungie has finished the project because the players will have moved on. A story, Bungie, is what you cleary can make but could never convince me I should care about in the actual game. I don't hate you or anybody else for it because I still enjoyed the HELL out of this game. In fact, the Guardian Games has been such a fun farewell that doesn't even have too much grind because you are getting quests done while you go. (I may do Solstice 2020, though, just for old time's sake. :) If any players want to know what I really think needs change, without me just blowing my head off and adding fuel to the fire, here are some things: -Continue to add loot pool to regular legendary engrams. -Add a LOT more perks to weapons to make the grind feel more needed and the payoff of getting "that Godroll" feel amazing + focus on perks to weapons that need new ones, such as swords & bows especially. -(This one will be the hardest and will be left to further discussion, but...) Stop doing horde modes. We have so many. There need to be actually difficult mechanics that consistently change to modes that mean that each experience of a game mode is different than the last. Instead of making them short and easy, make them long and more difficult. -Give players reason to explore all those planets you've got. After the campaigns, and apart from flashpoints, there isn't use to go back to most planets. Even the Moon is kind of extinct right now, unless you really want to be a Harbinger. With this means public events, lost sectors, patrols, adventures, etc. need to be changed/replaced to make them far more difficult, enjoyable, and have a reason to be there. -Let the players experience more story. (Okay, maybe this will be the hardest.) -Have Bright Dust be a consistent earning in Destiny's world BUT, to still get funds from Eververse, have certain items that can ONLY be obtained through Silver. For example, Exotic ornaments and one or two sparrows/ships. With this could mean ditching Bright Engrams and choosing to have items that are in store not just for a season, and not on rotation, but available for purchase either for an entire expansion OR indefinitely. -Following Eververse, have less Eververse items and have flashy items that can be earned elsewhere. For example, those sick Shadowkeep-esque ship and sparrow for this season being added to the dungeon. This would give players a reason to come back to older activities and would reduce the anger of not having enough FREE pretty cosmetics. -I would love to see more in-game earnable armor ornaments, including the return of certain ornaments that are unearnable at this point, including the old faction rally ornaments or the trials of the nine ornaments. -Clans are kind of useless right now, for the most part, and I would love to see not just more perks to being in one but a loot pool just for Clan members and then game modes for Clans. Still, before it sounds like I am complaining, I would like to add some advancements that I have noticed Bungie doing lately that I think deserve to be made clear. Some praise, if you will: -Having cosmetics that are earnable without purchase. The most recent example of this is with those DIVINE, GORGEOUS new exotic ghost shells, which you basically get from picking up colorful motes which you get by playing the game. -Coming out with new and unique exotics basically each season. I know it is kind of an expectation, but Bungie does not have to do this. They take a lot of time to make them look unique and do a lot of crazy stuff, and they are really pushing the craziness (such as with Bastion). -Continuing to add more Bright Dust to the pool of events. I know this doesn't make up for all the Eververse controversy, but it has made it a bit easier to earn some of the cosmetics, even if it means you can't get ALL of them with in-game currency. -Leveling transparency. They have been able to give a decent amount of surprise to the community lately without completely giving everything away. While they are still getting the knack of it, I would say they are a lot better at it and they give players a sense of long-awaited mystery of what to expect without not telling us anything. -All of those legendaries added to the loot pool. I tell you, that has been an incredible addition to the game. Yes, long-awaited, but I still appreciate it. In fact, I would say there are weapons and armor I still don't have at this point because there have been so many nice new additions. -The music. It is always gorgeous and drills me with goosebumps with its variety of sounds. It is stunning. Period. -(This is in no order, if you can't tell.) Working from home. However in the HELL you guys have been able to keep this event going on time astounds me and I wish there was more praise for you, Bungie, in this time. Things aren't exactly going well, and I know it can be discouraging, but I tip my hat to you. My side has been spoken. Mad Guardians' sides have been spoken. Bungie's side has been spoken. And, so, goodbye. It's been a hell of a journey and I have made a lot of good memories. I can't keep taking time on a game if I am not in love with, and get to experience, the story, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. My thoughts and prayers go out to everybody at Bungie. Not only are you guys going through quite an exhausting journey of trying to work a game from home, but you have so many players whose voices are more violent than ever. I wish you the best of luck. -Rose
