They allow you to change element types so you can put any mod on there. Just have three peices of armor that you like of each type and your covered. Easy. This is sort of endgame modifications. So you are meant to grind a bit. Luckily you dont need the mods to play effectively. Maybe dont do them if you dont like to grind?
