I'm pretty sure nearly all games that support respecing have some sort or cost associated with it.

People forget this. They expect destiny to be “I can do everything all at once and change it on the fly”.

It’s not that I necessarily want it for free, I just wish is wasn’t so expensive to adjust a piece of gear to your liking. Such as, in my case, I have a piece of armor which is masterworked and I now want to change the element to put a few different mods on it. If I chose to change the element, I can keep the energy level by spending the same amount of materials that I would if I were to remasterwork the whole thing from scratch. I just think that once I have used up all my materials to masterwork a piece of armor, I shouldn’t need to pay EVEN MORE, to do something so small as changing the element on it, so I can equip certain mods. And yet again, this wouldn’t at all be an issue if all mods were available for all pieces of armor, regardless of its element.

I’m sure most people would agree that having a cost to change the element type is OK. As you say though, the current cost is far too high.
