The bottom line is that there's no surefire way to become a moderator. When the time comes that more Mentors or Ninjas are needed, users that are believed to be able to fill the role will be sought out.

Technically, no, as the definition of the word fits fine here. Noob: a person who is inexperienced in a particular sphere or activity, especially computing or the use of the Internet. Aya is relatively new, and they and their batch still brings us coffee and stuff. You know, important Noob Mentor business.
