Or are the behavioral psychologists the ones developing the game?
It’s no secret that Bungie hired a bunch of real scientific types to make the game feel more rewarding and create an addiction amongst their player-base.
Bungie has created a real cash cow with Destiny, but as many already know, all cash cows have low market growth. Moving to a FTP model, this may appear to be market growth to their investors and business partners, but is it sustainable?
We’ve seen with many mobile and FTP games that the cash shop can be extremely lucrative. We’ve also seen that ignoring your core audience and not strengthening your brand can lead to some pretty disastrous results.
By using cold hard science to reel in a few more monthly active users, is Bungie ignoring the fact that their FTP model, and even main game aren’t sustainable?
The franchise has been on the brink of death several times, but it never actually dies. Did the shrinks actually provide decent analysis and keep this game alive by getting thousands of players to log back in each day? Are you afraid of missing out? Buddy, you had to be there.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Bungie should quit looking up to Enron and Tyco. Just be honest, respect our time and money, and create an ethical platform that will be sustainable - it’s the best way to stay in business. As it stands now, I’m not sure I’m too keen on playing any more Bungie titles in the future.
