Hence the old saying, "When the Gods wish to punish us, they give us what we pray for." Trials of Osiris is recreating ALL the same problems that plagued all the other incarnations of Trials. ITs basically a game mode where the top players get to prey upon weaker players for fun and prizes. I consider it a PREDATORY----rather than a competitive----format. While an obsession with Flawless runs and getting to see The Lighthouse propped up the original Trials of Osiris longer than I ever thought it would survive....it was starting to wither away as Destiny 1 wound down. Trials of the Nine accelerated that process...and became a convenient scapegoat for problems that were inherent to Trials itself. When you have a predatory format...where you can't compel those at the bottom to show up and play each week? The game slowly ROTS from the bottom up. For the very reasons that Paul Tassi outlined in his article. If you set up a game mode in such a way where its---effectively---"Winner Take All". Where you can't get ANYTHING unless you can put together a card where you win 50% of your matches against the very best PVP players? Then you compound that with the slap in the face of having all of what you DID manage to get for your efforts----tokens----be USELESS, and then VANISH at the end of the week so you are LITERALLY left empty-handed if you can't get three wins on a card? Who in their RIGHT MIND is going to show up week-in and week-out to be treated that way? Answer: No one. So you whoever is at the bottom of the pyramid gets crapped on....quits the game. Then the next echelon up becomes the bottom....they get shit on....rinse and repeat. Till you finally distill the talent pool down till you get just the very best players playing against each other....but now you have long matchmaking times and poor connections because player numbers are now in the toilet.

 •
Bungie won’t do anything if people like Kelly keep on telling them they are doing good work. We all want the game to succeed, but enough is enough. KG2 has a reputation of being a shill. At this point, it’s grown tiresome.
How do you keep a “reputation for being a shill” when criticizing the game? Do you not remember when he has a “reputation for being a troll” last year because he criticized the game so much? My point is simply that if you have an issue with the game it’s not with a player giving their opinion.

 • I understand your point. And no, I’ve seen very little where KG2 actually criticizes Bungie lmao.

 • There were issues then, but it was in a better state than it is now.

 •
There were issues then, but it was in a better state than it is now.
I mean when was it actually in a good state? Even just after Forsaken there were a lot of bugs some which are still around. No game is perfect but D2 has had more downs than ups sadly. Hopefully Bungie turns it around quickly.

 • Very astute post. Here's my question... It's the same mistakes, over and over again. Lessons learned in the prior game. Lessons learned earlier in the life of the current game. ...but the mistakes are all repeated. [Please note: Bungie's not alone here - see also the other D2] WHY do we, as customers, continue to tolerate this?

 • That is the million dollar question. Why are we still playing this game?

 • I can’t speak for everyone, but for me there’s 2 reasons why I still play: 1) I loved this game at its peaks (TTK, Forsaken) and I’m just waiting for them to recreate dlcs like that and probably the biggest reason... 2)I’ve spent too much time and money on this game. More then any other game I’ve ever played. Me and my brother played this game when it first came out, bought every dlc in D1. Then I got my own Xbox and copy of destiny so we could play at the same time and with others. We switched to PS4 and played D2. I jumped ship after launch, but my brother played through CoO, Warmind and then persuaded me to play again in Forsaken. Then I left before that gambit season came out, because I grinded gambit too much trying to get the ghost/ship/sparrow for Dredgen title. Got mad lol. Then, my brother persuaded me to come back during shadowkeep, then played through all the current seasons. Too many years on this game and too much money spent on this game to just leave it.

 • If you still genuinely enjoy playing, then that's that. Nobody needs any reason or justification beyond that. I will note, however, that your response is full of Sunk Cost Fallacy (money spent in the past that can never be recovered) combined with Throwing Good Money After Bad (keep throwing money at the screen hoping for improvement). So I'm not 100% where you stand. I actually had to fight my way over these same psychological hurdles to embark on Season of the Break. Now, I am enjoying other games, while lurking where the feedback is...hoping for improvement. At *that* point, I will jump back in. I just wish more people would put their money where their mouth is, and engage in the only feedback Bungie *actually* cares about. No matter how high the mountain of salt gets, they just ignore it if money keeps rolling in and daily login numbers hold up. When the <bleep> did this company earn the never-ending, unlimited free pass that so many of their customers just seem to mindlessly honor without question?

I’m a pretty dedicated player myself but the recent announcements (weapon retirement etc) coupled with this season really took the wind out of my sails. For the last two weeks or so I’ve been playing other things. I enjoy the Division 2 a lot. I see a lot of systems in place that are fantastic from a grind game standpoint. That being said I don’t believe I’ll sink as many hours into that franchise as I did destiny. It was hard to let go with FOMO and all in place and the game itself is beautiful with fun gunplay. I’ve definitely gotten my monies worth from it. But with the direction it has taken it feels like a waste of time better spent elsewhere. I’ll be keeping tabs to see if there are improvements.

 • I will admit I am enjoying the game at the moment, but the enjoyment is just a fraction of the what this game has offered in the past. Once the enjoyment dissipates into nothing, then I’ll stop and take a break. And like you said
Now, I am enjoying other games, while lurking where the feedback is...hoping for improvement. At *that* point, I will jump back in.
I’ll play other games and lurk the forums for a while waiting for a reason to come back.
