Hence the old saying, "When the Gods wish to punish us, they give us what we pray for." Trials of Osiris is recreating ALL the same problems that plagued all the other incarnations of Trials. ITs basically a game mode where the top players get to prey upon weaker players for fun and prizes. I consider it a PREDATORY----rather than a competitive----format. While an obsession with Flawless runs and getting to see The Lighthouse propped up the original Trials of Osiris longer than I ever thought it would survive....it was starting to wither away as Destiny 1 wound down. Trials of the Nine accelerated that process...and became a convenient scapegoat for problems that were inherent to Trials itself. When you have a predatory format...where you can't compel those at the bottom to show up and play each week? The game slowly ROTS from the bottom up. For the very reasons that Paul Tassi outlined in his article. If you set up a game mode in such a way where its---effectively---"Winner Take All". Where you can't get ANYTHING unless you can put together a card where you win 50% of your matches against the very best PVP players? Then you compound that with the slap in the face of having all of what you DID manage to get for your efforts----tokens----be USELESS, and then VANISH at the end of the week so you are LITERALLY left empty-handed if you can't get three wins on a card? Who in their RIGHT MIND is going to show up week-in and week-out to be treated that way? Answer: No one. So you whoever is at the bottom of the pyramid gets crapped on....quits the game. Then the next echelon up becomes the bottom....they get shit on....rinse and repeat. Till you finally distill the talent pool down till you get just the very best players playing against each other....but now you have long matchmaking times and poor connections because player numbers are now in the toilet.

  • That’s the biggest problem. It’s far from the only one.
That’s the biggest problem. It’s far from the only one.
Not for me it isn’t. Do I miss the bounties that awarded weapons and gear? Sure. Do I dislike tokens? Yep, but it’s not a problem for me. Make a good reason to go flawless, give back the OG bounties and get rid of radar. it’ll be better and more people would play for just the bounties alone. Edit: and make it so you can only get rewards from trials once per card. Any other cards reward nothing. That’ll stop the sweats from hanging out the first three matches every card.

Then you’ll just be back to the bundle of other problems that have always followed in Trials wake. It’s just that the loot system is accelerating the rate of decay of the player base. But this would still be happening without that monumental mistake. Just happening more slowly. Oh, and I still remember what happened when they removed radar from Trials of the Nine....

  • I agree with this comment, and I’m not going to pretend like because we don’t agree on literally everything I am surprised we do agree on some things. What I don’t understand is how testing to “get this right” didn’t reveal the problems it’s return introduced.

  • I just want to point out that, by all accounts, they did this right in D1. Sure, it was the same BS PvP system, but the reward system was much more generous. All players could get Trials armor and weapons by doing Trials bounties, but the players that went Flawless got the adept versions of those same weapons, and also got ornaments for the Trials armor. Average players could still get loot, while those players who got to the Lighthouse were rewarded with the same loot that was a notable cut above the normal drops. Sure the population would always die down to a tiny percentage of the PvP playerbase, because those players that grind bounties for their chance at loot are absolutely going to never come back as soon as they have what they want, but at least it would take a bit more time than what just happened.

  • Well said. The problem is that the Elitists cowardly sweatys who like to Haunt the forums don't care what damage they do to the game. The only thing they care about is humiliating normal people playing the game just to satisfy their perverted deviant disgusting needs.

  • You already ruined comp go play that they just handout unbroken and watered down Pinnacle Weapons. Prey on the trash cans no we just wish to not see this game mode become useless as comp is! This handlut self entitled mindset is killing any potential for this game to prosper. If pve is to hard you cry about it if it's not you still cry and whine to make it easier. When pvp is hard an optional playlist you cry and whine again! Does it ever stop?

  • I just find it funny that everyone immediately goes for stats rather than trying to form a valid argument. I do it sometimes, but this is a lot of people.

  • Basically nailed it. I've see the appeal but it was always going to go this way, it does more bad for the game than it does good.

If people stopped judging the comment because of who wrote it, and instead judged it on the content, they'd probably realize he has many valid points and comments. Passing judgement on the person instead of the comment, says more about the person passingjudgement, than him.

  • I didn't judge anything. I agreed with a post because of the many valid points and comments. My previous social interactions with this individual are generally long winded, one sided and start with "No.", hence the "judgmental", sarcastic comment that followed. This was two minutes of my life I'll never get back.
