I can’t see why people don’t get this. Let me give you an example, you are playing PVP, for some reason you or the game is lagging, to your opponent it looks like you are cheating (teleporting, not taking damage). He videos it, and posts it all over the forums, some people don’t believe you were cheating but enough people do believe you were cheating. they then proceed to attack you with private messages on here and your platform, some even hunt you down in game or try to hack your account to piss you off (extreme, I know). How do you feel now about publicly naming people?

  • If your connection is that bad you shouldn't be allowed to play in the first place. Connection that bad might as well be cheating and should get you banned.

  • If your internet is that bad you'd know because everything would be slow. It's not difficult to get decent connection. People who go into online games with horrible connections aren't innocent, they almost certainly know their internet sucks or drops connection regularly.

What gives you the right to be judge, jury and executioner?? How would you like it if someone wrongly accused you of something??

  • Wrongly accused me of having internet so bad it looks like I'm cheating? An individual's internet speed is a quantifiable number that can easily be found, and can objectively be insufficient to play online games. If my internet is so bad that I get the same effects from extreme lag as I would if I were using a teleport or invincibility mod, then it's cheating and I deserve to get banned.

Or your internet is normally fine but your isp is having issues? Or it’s the guy you are in a party with or Xbox live, PSN or steam servers are having problems??? What then? Is that person still a cheater???

  • If it's the game or Xbox live/PSN/Steam then most, if not all players on the platform would be having similar issues and a huge amount of error codes. In this case, it would be unreasonable to call someone a cheater since it's on the game's end not theirs but of course this issue would be widespread and most everyone, Bungie included, would know about the problem. But if their ISP is having issues, usually the internet is down altogether and one wouldn't be able to log into Destiny 2 at all. If the ISP is having serious lag, then you just shouldn't play until the issue is resolved. Once again, your current internet speed is easily found and if you see that it's much slower than usual you should wait to play until it has recovered. While your personal internet speed is dependent on your ISP, it's up to each individual as to whether they subject other players to poor speed or not.

I don’t like cheating as much as the next person but anyone with half a brain surely can understand why you can’t have every Tom, dick and Harry running around throwing potentially false accusations around. Put yourself in the shoes of someone being falsely accused of cheating because some ignorant person who knows very little about the Internet is spreading it all over the forums. Again why do you think the legal system exists??? Or do you think it’s ok for some random dude to decide if you murdered someone or is was purely an RTA??

  • There’s a difference between lagging really badly and looking sketchy, and having a video of someone throwing infinite supers that insta kill the enemy team no matter where they go. Name and shame makes sense, but only to a certain point

  • There is a difference yes, but you're leaving that discernment up to the general public? Thats a bad idea. The standard for evidence on this forum is quite low.

  • So you’re happy with some kid who doesn’t know the difference destroy your reputation? There’s a reason naming and shaming is against ToS.

  • Hackers and DDOSers get called out on Twitter all the time, and I’ve never seen or heard of someone being falsely witch hunted because of it. They’re actually usually banned because people are posting videos of them blatantly cheating where bungie can see them

  • That’s not my point. I don’t even know why I have to explain this. 1. Not everyone is correct in their assumption that someone is cheating. 2. Why would you know if they’re being harassed or not. Look some people are correct but there are also a lot of people who aren’t OR people who would just troll for kicks, knowing you were just lagging. Jesus, people report other players just because they got outplayed. Why do you think there’s a legal system?? Can you imagine if it as just left up to the angry mob to judge you??

  • This. In addition, the reports through the report player section are likely monitored by a different person/team than these forums. Sending it to the wrong place may take even longer to get the person banned.
