{Hey fellas, we can pause it here and break for the night if y'all want. You'll need to cycle the watch of course, but you can rest and heal.} *Through the open door is a long, winding hallway that ends abruptly with a cliff. At the edge of the cliff is a small hole in the "wall". Within is a small space, but big enough to fit everyone. There's food, water and healing items, as well as rope and ice hooks.*

  • *I arrive at the scene and survey the results of what's happened thus far, particularly how wounded or roughed up others look, to try and get a sense of the struggle. Having not been a part of the initial stage, and not being tired of weakened, I take up watch and try to let the other, more exhausted fighters take their rest.*

  • *as you approach the resting spot, Mirabelle stands up, and forms an axe from some of the water she took* “Who are you!? You don’t look like one of those things!”

  • *I sheath my sword and raise my hands.* Don't worry, I'm a friendly. I was preoccupied, but now I'm here to help in the fight. *I look at the axe with interest.* You're a waterbender?

  • Mirabelle sighs, and the water retreats into her bottle. “No, I’m..” She pauses, and then sits back down at the entrance. “You should head in with the others. I’ll stay out here.”

  • "If it's all the same with you, I'd rather stay out. I don't prefer crowded areas, and I'm awake anyway." I sling my bow off my shoulder and lean it against a wall along with my sword. "Has the fight been very hard so far?"

  • The girl looks away from you as you sit down, and tucks her arms underneath her cloak, as though she were trying to hide any parts of her exposed skin. “I’ve never done this before..” She said. “Everyone else here is acting like fighting monsters just comes naturally to them, but it’s.. I killed something, and I don’t like being able to say that..” She paused again. “And, I can’t help but feel nobody else here trusts me, even though they haven’t said it. It’s always like that, anywhere I go..”

  • I nod slowly as the girl speaks. "In time the fighting will get easier, but I will say one thing. Don't let go of the innocence that tries to die after your first kill. All life is sacred, and no joy should be found in snuffing out the life of even an evil being, only joy that no one else will be hurt." I pause and look towards the sleeping area. "I am sorry you had to kill, but that you cared enough to regret is proof that you could become a greater hero than all those who killed today as if it were second nature. As for trust..." I begin to rummage through my pack for food. "It may come in time."

  • She looks up at you, then down at the ground. “You think I sound like a hero? Beldam says that the mark of a true hero is to fight to protect people. To be selfless, and brave.. But that’s not me. When we were attacked, the first thing I did was panic. And, if I’m being honest, I’m here for selfish reasons, too. I just want people to look at me, and not have their first thought be calling me a monster, or a freak.. And if people think I’m a hero, then maybe..” She falls silent.

  • "Hmm. Everyone gets into the adventuring business for different reasons. For some it's revenge, actually for a lot of people it's revenge, others it's riches or fame, or wanting to see far off places. Acceptance is not such a bad goal, but it's not important. If the people here won't accept you as who you are, then they aren't worth being around in the first place. If you have to change who you are to be accepted, you aren't being accepted." I grab my sword in its scabbard and look at it. "If being a fighter is not who you are then I implore you to not do any more killing, even if it's evil beings, for acceptance. It will hollow you, and you will lose acceptance of yourself." I draw the sword halfway and check for any signs of wear on it as I speak. "That said, if you would continue on the warrior's path, do so for goodness' sake. Many these days do not want to be a hero, they want to be the vigilante who will cut corners to save the day, they want the benefits of heroism with little of the moral trappings. That may be needed sometimes, but we need those who will fight simply for what is right. If you would fight for others and for the weak, simply because it is right. Then you will have already gained my trust, and my acceptance." I smile as I sheath the sword.

  • Angrily Mirabell stands up, and throws down her hood, revealing her light blue scaly skin, and her yellow eyes. On top of her head, instead of hair she had darker blue scales, that ran down in a yellow finned tail like structure. “That’s easy for you to say! It’s easy to say to just look for people who will accept and forget the ones who don’t you when you don’t look like this! Nobody accepts me! If they don’t outright try to kill me, people stay as far away from me as they possibly can!” After a moment, she sits back down, and hugs her knees. “Beldam tells me these powers are a gift, but he doesn’t know what it’s like to be hated just for existing..” She paused, and pulled her hood back on. “I don’t know if being a hero is the path I want to be on, but I do know it’s the only choice I have. I can’t keep living my life hiding at the bottom of the sea, stealing bread from the food stalls.. I just can’t, and this is the only way out of that.”

  • I say nothing for a moment, then I speak quietly. "You are right, I do not know what that is like, to be hated for what you did not choose to be." I remain seated, and watch Mirabell. "If trust and acceptance is what you want, it will have to be earned. It will be harder for you than others, but through bravery and more importantly dedication, you must earn their respect. " I stand up and grab my gear. I pull my hood over my head and lean lightly on my bow shaft. "Alright, let's see it then." I motion for her to stand. "You will gain your acceptance here, but I gift mine to you free of proving. Now, I want to see what you can do."

  • “You mean.. You want to fight?” Mirabelle pauses for a moment, and then stands up. She pops the cap off the bottle hanging off her belt, and a gentle stream of water flows out. She pauses before shaping it into an axe, though the blade is much duller than before. “Okay.”
I like, totally have to go to bed, though. So, I’ll try to respond tomorrow before the RP kicks off again, but no promises!
• I put a cover made of animal fur over my swords blade and take it in one hand. "First requirement of being a hero or adventurer, never stop practicing. Those who think simple prodigious talent is enough are either dead or soon to be." I raise the sword into a defensive stance and await an attack.
Sounds good. Sleep well, man. If we don't get back to it before that, we can always just say they sparred for a while before turning in.
• Mirabelle takes one step forward, and then small waves of water form beneath her feet, carrying her the rest of the way faster than she could’ve ran it. She raises her axe into the air, and goes for an overhead swing. Her form is decent. Sloppy enough you can tell she’s not professionally trained, but well enough you can tell she’s done plenty of fighting in her life.

  • As she rushes forward and her axe down, I side step and jump just to the side, so that the axe may pass me by. I then try and hit her back with the flat of my covered blade.

  • Mirabelle quickly swings her arm to the side, and a wave of water flies out of her skin to smack you in the face.

The water hits me and I wince from the impact. I then feint and swing my sword horizontally at her middle, then bring it back up and down to her shoulder.

  • She makes an attempt to dodge, but takes the hit anyway. Grabbing her shoulder, and with the waves beneath her feet, she shoots a jet of water out of her hand. The momentum pushes her back. She tries to stop herself by pressing her feet against the ground, but that only results in her falling down.

  • The water jet hits me as well and shoves me into the wall behind me.I Then with the speed of training I draw an arrow and take out my bow. I snap the end of the arrow off, creating a blunt edge. The moment that Mirabelle stands I fire the arrow off straight at her while saying "think fast!"

  • Mirabelle quickly bursts into octopus style; 8 large watery tentacles shooting out of the ground. They swerve in front of her, and catch the arrow in their water. She grabs her head. She’s using too much water..

  • She lets out a deep breath, and reabsorbs the water from her attacks, making up the difference of what she couldn’t absorb by pouring a water bottle on her hand. “Yeah, I’m fine.. I I use too much water I’ll just.. Dry out. I pass out before that ever happens, though. Probably from dehydration.. I’ll be fine, as long as I get some more.”
