A Game of War III: Deep Storage (Fanfiction)

One Day Later, Vanguard Deep Storage. Kirk had been in the Deep Storage vaults many times. Both with the consent and without the consent of the Vanguard. That meant he knew the ways in, Silas, Kryn, and Lynn, one of Kryn's friends had come with him. Kana, Darek, and Zach had remained behind being the less subtle members of the group. Kirk didn't mind Kryn and Lynn, but Silas had been off the field for so long he could compromise them. So Kirk had chosen a safer route, the longer one to be sure, but safer all the same.   "Anyone know how to crack a Vanguard security lock," Kirk asked.   Lynn looked at the lock intently, "heh, yeah. This one's surprisingly easy for a deep storage vault."   Kryn looked at Lynn, "a?"   "Oh yeah. There's more, lots more. You wouldn't know though. It took me years and many not quite legal methods to find them."   Kirk took another look at Lynn and realized that his preliminary checks on Lynn were exactly correct. She was exactly the person they needed to get in and out. Fast.   "Open it."   "Already on it." A couple seconds later the door swung open, "done."   Kirk waved everyone forward, "let's go."   "That was fast Lynn. New record?"   "You wish. I always beat you Kryn, your skill set is different. If this were a sniper shootout you would win."   Kirk smiled beneath his helm, "I doubt it."   Lynn leaned toward Kryn, "why does his smile do the opposite of make me feel safe."   "He's an expert assassin, and that's just how it is. You never get used to it."   "He's… unique."   Kryn laughed, "that's one way to put it."   Kirk's voice came from behind them, "A little different than my opinion… but close enough."   Kryn and Lynn both jumped. Lynn whirled around and stepped back, "you just snuck up on Kryn. How? I've been trying for years!"   "I just know the right moment. Both of you were distracted, and what did I say about moving forward?"   "Yeah, yeah, we're moving."   "Start moving faster," he started jogging.   The hallways were made of concrete painted a blank white. No lines painted on them, no doors, no pipes. At the end there was a door made of titanium, it showed their reflections. Kirk looked at the reflections and noticed an extra figure in it. He slowed his jog and used the door to line himself up with the unknown figure as best he could. When he was as sure as he was going to be that he was lined up he made his move. He whirled around trying to conserve as much momentum as possible. Then he dashed toward the figure and hit it with his shoulder, and the knife he had slid out of its sheath almost imperceptibly. He sailed straight through it and managed to keep himself from falling forward.   "Projection."    Silas looked at it, "whose and of what?"   Kirk studied it, "I don't know. It's not any technology I'm aware of."   Kryn stepped forward, "because it's not. I've seen it before, once. It's Dredgen Truth's.    Kirk glanced at Kryn then back at the projector, "Teren's still locked up though."    Kryn thought for a moment, "it's possible Teren was a decoy, he's escaped, or… there are more Dredgens that were aligned with him."   Kirk picked up the projector and had his ghost transmat it away. "They, or he, haven't made any moves against the City yet. Akûn has, and stated his intention to destroy us. Right now we need to prioritize Akûn."   Lynn tilted her head, "or we could split up into two teams after getting the file. One to hunt wherever this projector came from and the other to kill Akûn."   "We'll discuss it with the others, can you unlock that door?"   "No, it requires input from a specific ghost to open."   Kirk looked at the door for a moment, "step back, we'll have to be fast when we get in there and go out a different way. This is gonna be loud."   He slid his knife out of his sheath and solar energy flowed down his arm and onto the knife. He drove into the door and began to melt through the metal, creating an oval shaped hole through it. Large enough for all of them to get through. It made a horrible screeching sounds as it scraped nearby metal. When he had successfully cut a complete circle he pushed the metal forward. It fell out of the door and hit the floor with a resounding boom.   "Let's go. We gotta get this fast or we're done for."   They moved through the vault opening containers of things they shouldn't have been seeing. Hive texts, Fallen guns, files on SIVA, and maps of the Vex gate network. Finally Kryn called out across the vault, "found it!"   Kirk, Silas, and Lynn all ran toward Kryn.   "That's it," Silas said.   "Alright, I have an exit but no one's gonna like it."   Kryn looked at Kirk and narrowed her eyes, "what won't we like about it?"   Kirk pointed at a wall, "behind there is a hundred foot sheer drop off the Tower."   Lynn stared at the wall, "so we're gonna blow open the wall of a deep storage vault. And jump a hundred feet down to our temporary deaths?"   Kirk's hand filled with void energy and he grinned, "yep."   "Great. Kryn, where did you guys find him? He's crazier than you."   "Zach found him, I don't know how or why."   "We were assigned to kill a target, we killed the target."   Kryn rolled her eyes, "what an explanation."   Lynn grinned, "I don't think you're gonna get a better one."   "I could never have guessed that."   "Three, two, one."   The void explosive Kirk had placed on the wall expanded and then rapidly collapsed in on itself, dragging most of the wall with it. Kirk jumped.
