It's either a drive issue, or a disc issue. Either way, there isn't much Bungie or we in the help forum can do for you. You should be able to download the New Light version and then use any DLC you purchased digitally.

Definitely not a drive issue as I said I've been able to play GTA V which I have on disc. That's not including the several blu-ray movies I plugged in. The last time I plugged in D1 it worked fine and has not left my shelf since. It's been in its case, waiting to be plugged back in. It can't suddenly stop working. But it looks like I may just get another disc anyway.
