Season Of Dawn - A Step in the right direction

So I wanted to share my thoughts and initial impressions about Season of Dawn. A heads up, I was one of the many guardians who was underwhelmed by the reveal stream but suffice to say the content we have this season in a sensible step in the right direction. Seasonal content is a very tricky space bungie have been in for a while, we started with black armory to opulence there was a steady stream of content, something to keep the playerbase engaged over a period three months. Black armory to a large extent had some solid but time gated content, season of drifter had two new modes, those that liked it had a blast playing where as others felt left behind and finally opulence, what a fantastic end to the first year of season. Menagerie is still revered by so many as being the absolute best when it came to letting us chose the type of loot and a straight path to earn it. Season of Undying in my opinion lacked the depth of previous seasons. I understand that shadowkeep was bundled with it but the player engagement was starting to wane near the end for this season. And now finally season of dawn. In my opinion the reveal stream did not do justice to the content we have in store here. Let me explain: This season's main activity is sundial, a 6 player match-made activity that is similar to Menagerie in terms of how the overall activity plays out. Different levels with a timer to keep progressing each of them. Slightly altered mechanics but still fun and engaging. Challenging at times but certainly not punishing. (the difference between a good and a bad team is the amount of time you take to complete the activity, thank you Bungie) Grind progression: You have 5 obliesks connected to the Sundial (Nessus, Io, Mercury, Mars & EDZ) each with it owns line of progression that offer unique mods as you level them up. Imagine Chalice but rather than have all those variables in one place it is curated into five different paths each with it's own unique set of rewards. (Mods, that can be game changers as you near end game) Loot: The single most important part of any new activity, the measuring yardstick of how well an activity is received depends on the quality and quantity of loot being offered. This is where Season of Dawn truly shines. For the past 2 years we have asked bungie ability to choose our loot and to bring back unique weapon perks, stuff found in Destiny 1 raid loot. Perks which are unique and only found in this activity, that can have a solid impact on the way we play. I am happy to confirm both of these exist in this activity. I played the sundial thrice yesterday, every time I had the option to choose between two weapon types an auto rifle and a side arm and every single time get this I was lucky enough to get a completely new perk unique to season of dawn. The three perks I received on my weapon are Elemental Capacitor - Increased stats based on subclass , solar - increases reload speed, void - increases stability & Arc - increases handling. Vorpal Weapon - Increased damage against bosses, vehicles and guardians when your super is active And my most favorite Osmosis - Using your grenade ability changes your weapon type to match your subclass (meaning you can use this perk to convert your kinetic weapon into an energy weapon - Mind Blown ) !! And finally Story: The return of Saint 14, a fractured timeline on mercury and some amazing lore entries to tie it all together, more cut scenes please Bungie :) ? As I was playing through this I kind of got the skeletal idea of where bungie was going with this, a season where the player is giving the opportunity to hunt for enticing weapons with unique perks in an activity that is both challenging in higher difficulties and not as punishing. I was all smiles as I finished my run and every single time get excited about the potential of finding a unique perk. When was the last time any of us have unequipped weapons we have grown accustomed to? Well now you have a reason to do just that, so many variables and the ability to get rewarding loot throughout the whole season. To the team that came up with this brilliant piece of content I thank you. All of this community thanks you, as we start to dive into content I am confident that so many of us are going to enjoy the chase of going after that rolls on these amazing weapons all while having a blast playing through this season. Oh also did I tell you about symmetry. Yup the best scout rifle in game right now(debatable yes but it comes in back yo !!) Thank you to everyone at Bungie for creating this wonderful loop of content we get to enjoy as the season unfolds, y'all have nailed this one, nothing but respect ^_^ !!

 • Agreed. I'm personally enjoying it so far and it definitely seems that they took some of our feedback into consideration when crafting this season. If they keep improving going forward and actually give some focus to PvP, this game can really shine again. In my opinion, they just need to keep in mind these things: -Loot (rolls, perks, cosmetics) -Progression (power level, masterworking, quests) -Balance (weapons, abilities, mods) -Activities (for BOTH PvP and PvE ex: trials, factions, sparrow racing, etc.)
