There's an all but confirmed theory that Bungie modifies drop rates based on how often you play. From my own experiece, I believe it's a real thing. I've taken breaks before and came back to just a bomb of things dropping left and right. I've seen it with RL friends too. Without seeing the code we'd never know for sure, and Bungie sure isn't going to just put that out there. Anyways, of all the tinfoil hat conspiracies out there I'd bet on this one being true more than any of the others.

  • I mean sadly I wouldnt be surprised if they did code it that way but from my experience I dont think it is coded like that. I play this game a ton and tend to get pretty lucky with drops. I mean today I got 3 different exotic pieces of gear that just dropped from random enemies.

  • I main my warlock. After hours of playing, i get nothing meaningful at all. I then play 10 matches of crucible on my Titan or Hunter and boom, im getting drops. I dropped 4 Chimir’s Daggers from the 4 iron banner bounties. First week of doing pinnacle activities, i got 4 helmets Last 2 weeks, my fated engrams give me an exotic that xur is selling I could and im sure many people can list even more examples that this games “RNG” isnt so RNG

  • I can see this. Explains why 2 of my friends after not playing for 6 months got 1000 voices on the first run. One of them having it drop twice. One from his first run and one from the wishing wall key on the first run. While my one friend who plays daily is on his 54th run and still nothing.

  • It’s a gaming addiction model they have based the loot drop system on.... How do you ‘hook’ someone? You give them a lot of shiny things to ‘feel rewarded’ to feel satisfied... they keep coming back.. they are ‘hooked’ Then you rapidly deny drops based on their degree of time spent in game... bait/drip feeding them every once in a while to keep them ‘hooked’ all the while introducing new shiny things... Sad but true there is a published paper by a psychologist who worked on Destiny.

This wouldn't surprise me. Did one solo after barely playing for a couple weeks and got nothing. Then i did it again with randoms and dropped 2 from one strike, and one was curated.

  • I've noticed this as well. I just came back from a 3 week hiatus Friday and had two god roll guns and 4 exotics drop the same day. Never had luck like that while playing daily. This isn't the first time I've taken a break and had insane luck either. There's really no solid proof to be found, but if there is code swaying drop rates based on playtime Bungie should be ashamed of themselves. Nobody should be hindered because they play too much.
