We should be able to switch subclasses via the dpad on the fly. Also gernaids. No more waving at the boss with some emote. Allow us to use it from something useful. Just have it switch to emote mode at the tower and perhaps a toggle to turn on it you want or need it.

That would definitely be a very useful system. However, I think being able to switch Subclasses so efficiently would make the player so adaptable that it would create some imbalance.
