Why are Sidearms and Bows left out?

Is it just me who thinks that these weapon archetypes are simply outperformed by everything else? Sidearms have short range but decent fire rate, you’d think that would make them lethal at close range,something like SMGs, yeah? Nope, it’s no better than hand cannons’ that have better range and stats. On the other hand we have Bows. Charge time comparable to linear fusion rifles but considerably lower damage. Making optimal and average TTK values way above 1 second. Something that’s very rare in current Crucible meta. Are these weapon archetypes gonna see some improvements or are they gonna continue being left out? Imo, would be nice if we got some (or all) bows using special ammo and sidearms being more lethal at close ranges.

  • Bows should be nerfed. No one uses bows in combat anymore. It makes no sense to have a bow be a viable weapon in a FPS.

    • You know I just wish sidearms would hit hard at the ranges they shoot. Whereas hand cannons are close quarters combat, sidearms should be for extremely close quarters combat. There is a reason why they were weapons of choice for assassins, officers, and other professions. In real life they are a very good back up weapon and great for overall self defense. When i play destiny 2 with sidearms I want to feel like John wick! I just dont get that when playing.

    • Bows are fan freaking tastic so under appreciated . I personally love 300 rpm sidearms. I actually love a bow and sidearm load out

    • Bows are for people who hate snipers but still want long range peek damage. They have insane magnetism, and can be hip fired at like 70m. You get to keep your radar too. They 2 tap to the body with combat bows, so if you are peeking properly you only have to be exposed for like .5 seconds. They're actually pretty great if the enemy team doesn't have a good sniper, cuz that's the only thing that will win a peek war.

          • Completely agree. Sidearms used to have the sole purpose of shutting down apes due to high body shot damage at ext close range. IDK why they've been left out. As if Wormwood alone causes the damnation of its entire race.

          • Bows need more things to differentiated them form just a slow scout with a large projectile hit box. things like... -take much less flinch -add more frames to greater support play styles (like a rapid fire frame that has great reload and draw time but is not perfectly accurate, and can also load multiple arrows at once, for less dmg per arrow but in close to mid range a good engagement weapon) -more bow specific perks to make more viable options other than as fast a draw time as possible -and, of course, more exotics (not just exotic bows i'm talkin like exotic armor to) Sidearms are fighting not only smgs, but also themselves as they really lack the "oomph" of other weapons (they 'stick' less when aiming, they sound like BB guns, and their jobs are done much better by other weapons). sure the TTK of sidearms isn't the worst, but they feel so... wrong to use. To be honest they need... -MORE EXOTICS, there is only one exotic sidearm in D2 and is a gimmick at best. Bows came with Forsaken and already have more total exotics in D2 than the ENTIRETY of all exotic sidearms in all of Destiny (D1 and D2) -more unique perks for sidearms (idk what but their should be more) -more unique features on different frames/new frames (like, hear me out, a dual wield frame that grants bonuses when using two sidearms) speaking of dual wield... -DUAL WIELD capabilities, this can be an example of a new feature in destiny that has some weapons (and some exotic armor) to only take one hand to use; so you can do things like dual wield side arms, use a shield with adaptive swords to boost block, or use a shield with a sidearm so that you forfeit aiming but can now block with a sidearm to give more utility to "weaker" weapon archetypes -rework sidearm effect to make them feel better to use.

            • Also, no. Bows should NOT be special ammo. That's so scuffed. They require genuine thought and skill. Why do you think most don't use em? It's not just because they have a huge optimal time to kill.

                Side arms need a rework even tho I disliked that meta in d1. Bows are pretty good for pvp tbh. Bow paired with erianas vow has the same ttk(I think slightly faster) than pre nerf NF. Edit and a fun loadout to run.

                • I am a bow main. Check my stats since forsaken, and see I've used a bow for the overwhelming majority of my kills since it launched. More than half are precision kills. I don't want a bow buff. Please, no bow buff, because I don't want the cancer meta players to start running bows and then I look like a dick for having so many freaking bow kills. No. All I want regarding bows is an increase in perks to be rolled as well as a higher amount of bows for ALL THREE slots. Precision frames to be exact.

                    I tend to use a few Sidearms in Console PVP like "Last Dance" and "Lonesome", and I got to say that they're not bad but they're not great either. I've out dueled Recluses, Shotgunners, and Etentillers, but they're all equally as effective in the end. This is because SMGs (Recluse), Fusions (Erentil), and Shotguns (Dust Rock Blues) are easier to use overall and occupy the same ranges as Sidearms. That being said, Sidearms should be the logical alternative to SMGs in close range, but that's not the case since SMGs just mow down targets with ease. This is common because SMGs are easier to use due to the non-reliance on precision damage (it helps, but isn't required) and the high rate of fire, which is directly opposite to the precision focused and slower Sidearms. This is visible in the TTK values and requirements for them. Comparing the Last Dance (.5 OTTK) and a Master of Arms powered Recluse (.47 OTTK), the Sidearm requires 6 Critical hits while the SMG requires only 8 Body shots. Recluse is the outlier here though, since most SMGs can get close to the OTTK of .5 with some help from a damage perk. In the end, Sidearms are overshadowed by their counterparts due to mitigating factors like ease of use and reliance on precision damage, but that's not to say they're any less effective. As for the comparison to Hand Cannons and Sidearms, I'd argue that Sidearms are more of a clean-up weapon or counter-push weapon. Not something you'd mainly use as a primary source of damage, like a Hand Cannon. It's something you pullout when you're getting pinched by a rushing opponent. That's easily reflected by the Handling Stat on many of them, they're fast to swap out most of the time and are pretty effective at linear thinking targets. HC's are more for Dueling rather than Cleaning up, so just because they seem to have the same roles doesn't mean they do.

                        • Bows are perfectly fine where they are. They have the best single shot damage out of any primary weapon but they also have the slowest fire rate. If you have ever seen an experience bow user, it’s pretty obvious that they’re a good weapon type.

                        • I don't know. I find it better to shoot once with the bow, drain their shield, swap to any other weapon for clean up. If bows one tapped outside of using the Titan Bubble, it would be stupid. That is just my two cents.

                          • Gunsmith bounty's have me using sidearms in PvE recently. Kinda fun for close range stuff. Full auto & Swashbuckler are good solid perks for me. I think bows are in a decent place.
