I think you are over thinking about getting your thread locked.
Once a thread gets locked, it dies on its own and can’t be removed or edited. It will stay there until it’s not trendy anymore.
It happens, just be more cautious next time.

Problem is that it's been trending for awhile now, and has actually went up more as its been locked. It's not dying down that easily.
