sigh. you were all warned in the "directors cut" blog post if you actually read it. They clearly stated that things would slow down going forward due to team burn out and making content is hard. They did not say exactly what some of those things would be but I like to think it's obvious. I have no doubt to the truth of that and I respect they were at least honest about it. They have said for years that no matter what they simply can't make content at the rate the community will devour it. That's part of why the season milestones are time gated. So take what you can get and understand why it's where it's at. They wait too long to put out content to appease all of the arm chair devs people walk away and play other games. They put it out frequently, which has been industry proven to be better to keep players and make cash, people are mad its not enough.

  • "making content is hard!" so is building a house but people still do it.

  • Agreed, but do you honestly think that the solution to Bungie’s problem is creating cheap, disposable content? Some of us have argued against disposable content since Bungie announced it. It almost feels as if Bungie has given up, no longer cares. That concerns me, I truly thought this game could have been equally as much a cornerstone in video gaming history as Halo has been. Sadly, it won’t come anywhere close..., unless Bungie places an emphasis on expanding, growing and improving this game. Right now, that is not the path that Bungie has chosen to pursue. At least from my perspective it isn’t. It truly feels as if Bungie has given up and cares only for its’ next IP, stringing us along for our $10 every 90 days and maybe a mtx purchase every now and then.

  • I think their plan is going to be about what we've been seeing. A largish annual update followed by several small DLC's. Some will do things well, others will feel meh. At the end of the day they're still providing things at a steady pace. Grant it many would agree that we'd rather have quality over quantity. But a large portion of the player base is pretty casual. They've said before they understand people will come and go and they hope you come back. As long as there's something to do most will be appeased. Just enough carrot for the masses, not everyone. It's sad but it's a reality that this constant pumping is required. I'm also a Warframe player. A game that has been free to play since it's onset. Grant it they have had ups and downs and learned and changed a lot over time. But one of the more famous interviews with devs was when they were trying to pitch their game to publishers and they were told they would never be able to pump out content at the speed needed to keep players and would fail. A struggle they have always had. Destiny mirrors it in many ways. So especially now that they are gong with a new business model they will need to keep putting stuff out and I fear much of it will be lacking for a lot of people. I also feel that this community will never be pleased though unless every DLC was near a full scale game launch. And even then they'd find a hundred things wrong with it. Their job is almost impossible lol.

  • Agreed. I understand the logic. But, it’s still fundamentally a disappointment. Basically, Bungie has just told us that instead of growing the game into something epic, that they’ve quit and will just push out enough to keep our $10 every few months. That’s a punch right to the plexus to those of us who hoped for more. It isn’t a difference wrt how to deploy a game, or a method to providing content, similar to your Warframe vs Destiny comparison. It’s public capitulation by Bungie that they can’t deploy the game some of us hoped for.

  • They are guilty of building up some hype sure. But you said it in your last sentence, that you hoped for. A lot of the let down is due to player expectations that they never said. That's why they just say stuff like new content or new season and don't go into detail often because that spawns a rabbit hole of well i thought this or you said that etc. From now on approach everything with a skeptical outlook. In all games that is. Another issue with these games like the two i mentioned is that if you're a day 1 player or came in part way through and went hard and did everything in the game and only have next drop to look forward to it definatly seems like less than it is for those starting later. They have tons to do. Those of us who are hardcore are honestly the hardest to find the balance for and please.

  • Well, I’m not sure I consider myself hardcore..., anymore. Yes, I was an Alpha invite, and I freely admit that my hopes and perceptions cloud any unbiased views on where the game currently sits. That being said, it should hurt when a Midsize Indie developer who has had the “Full” support of one of the largest video gaming publisher’s to exist on the planet, for years, is unable to do anything more than just trickle out enough to get by. I’m not a “hype” believer, never watch streamers, including Bungie’s twitch feeds, learned my lesson during CoO Twitch sessions, lol. I’m wise (read: old, lol) enough to develop my own views and beliefs. It is my very simple belief that you don’t grow a game by contracting it, and you don’t ever say: “we can’t do it bc it’s too hard”. I don’t have issues with the D2 director and I feel safe assuming he’s doing everything he can to affect a better outcome, for everyone. That being said, if you’re working your ppl too hard, you don’t sacrifice your product for them. Ever, you get more ppl working on it! Bungie has known the Bungie/ATVI relationship was tenuous, best case scenario, and likely to fall apart before D2 was launched. We would never have seen Silver show up for sale on steam, if things weren’t stressed to the point of breaking. ATVI/Blizzard could not have allowed it, even the thought of moving away from Blizzard was an anathema to the publicly traded company. Yet, it happened. Bungie has been working on getting to where she is right now for years, at least two. I also freely admit, here and in any post where I’m questioned on my views, that DestinyTheGame is getting long in the tooth. But, that just leads to more tediousness when the newest and most fresh activities are removed. It’s my simple belief that DestinyTheGame needs a nuts and bolt restoration, not just a Maaco $699.00 paint job. New engine, brand new, not redesigned from 1989, new studios, new architecture and hardware, p2p works for shared shooters. Not so much if you want an actual action mmo. So, yes, I unambiguously had hopes that Bungie would create a unique and ever expanding environment I would enjoy for a decade. But, as the D2 Director recently stated: “It’s too hard”

  • It’s nice to chat with a fellow wise person lol. I had the same hopes and agree they need more people or something to break the cycle. I will say they’re somewhat consistent in their ball dropping so at this point it’s par for the course. Doesn’t make it any less disappointing though. I just think it’s sad that most of the industry has gone this way. People seldom wait for quality with so much choice so they have to keep the drip feed on and lower what could be.
