Kind of an unfair comparison, Blizzard got slammed for freedom of speech issues, Bungie are just selling some cosmetic items

  • And actually infringing on freedom of speech by locking threads that are accusing them of underhanded microtransactions. Just scroll down the trending and check all the locked posts.

  • I see a difference between locking threads that break a forum's code of conduct and topics that are concerning human rights.

  • Not suggesting the degrees of the offenses are the same, but they’re still both examples of censorship taken to extremes they shouldn’t be.

  • Those are forum moderators that do this work voluntarily. They have nothing to do with Bungie as a whole other than patrolling the forums. The ones I see locked are either trying to start flame wars or just being a nuisance. One is flat-out called #removeeververse, something I'm sure the forum mods are looking out for since we get #remove[insertthinghere] posts literally flooding the forums every holiday season.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/254192343/0/0 So you mean like this one. And in what world is it a major offense to call for the removal of a game feature when said feature has proved lecherous to other facets of the game due to high prices of micros that aren’t justified due to the fact that the game is NOT F2P (despite Bungie’s insisting that it is) and the amount of focus on Eververse has diluted the quality of the OTHER content in the game? Yet to voice these complaints is considered “disruptive” on a forum that’s MADE for Feedback? Were you here when enhancement cores were first put into infusion and core threads were locked left and right because of “disruption?” IF THESE ISSUES WERENT ACTUALLY A GENUINE PROBLEM, THEY WOULDNT FLOOD THESE FORUMS OR GET UPVOTES. YET BUNGIE AND THE NINJAS RESPONSE IS TO CALL IT A DISTURBANCE AND LOCK THEM RATHER THAN ACTUALLY FACE THE MUSIC.

  • Dude, the game IS Free to Play, the whole first year's worth of content, plus the patrol zones and everything those include from Forsaken and Shadowkeep are FREE for anybody to PLAY without paying a cent. That is the very definition of "free to play". The only things you need to buy are the major expansions and season passes (Forsaken and Shadowkeep campaigns, raids, dungeons, etc.) and the optional cosmetics.

  • -_- Destiny 2 is not free to play. WARFRAME is free to play. It has more expansions than Destiny and every single one costs zero dollars. And has never cost anything but zero dollars. Destiny cost the full premium until literally a month ago, and even now you’re still paying for Shadowkeep and the Annual Pass? D2. IS NOT. A F2P.

  • D2 is, in fact, Free to Play. You can deny it all you want, but it is. I've seen this attitude before with Team Fortress 2 when it went F2P, and the attitudes will change as time goes on. Destiny 2 also just went F2P literally 1 month and 2 days ago, so there's not much to compare yet. As for the number of additions Warframe has had compared to D2: Warframe came out in 2013, while D2 came out in 2017, as the second game in a series. The comparison just isn't fair.

Actually considering D1 was released in 2014 And was pay to play all the way up until now, in D2 Year 3, I think it’s pretty damn fair. So we’re looking at Vanilla D1, Dark Below, House of Wolves, Taken King, Rise of Iron, D2 Vanilla, Curse, Warmind, Forsaken, Y2 Annual Pass, all over $500 altogether. Warframe, Second Dream, War Within, Plains of Eidolon, Sacrifice, Fortuna, and Empyrean. All a phatt $0. Warframe is a genuine F2P. All content is available for absolutely free, and any additional spending is simply to progress faster or look more cosmetically impressive. Destiny is a false F2P, and the fact of it is that the “free content” is the content that WASNT MAKING THEM ANY MORE MONEY. If Y1 and Y2 content was still printing money they would have never made it free. Now it’s acting as a gateway to funnel New Light players to Eververse and the locked content. Not free to play. If it was free to play, Shadowkeep would be free. Period.

  • I don't know where you got $500 from, but that total cost of all of those things together is (or was) $420. D1 vanilla: $60 TDB: $20 HoW: $20 TTK: $40 RoI: $30 D2 vanilla: $60 CoO: $20 Warmind: $20 Forsaken: $40 Y2 Pass: $35 Shadowkeep: $40 Y2 Pass: $35 Nowadays, though, all of D1 Y1 and D2 Y1 are rolled into one package, with the former being purchasable with TTK for $40 and the latter being completely free. As for your definition of F2P, I suggest you look at how other F2P games do their business, because D2 is not unique or even unusual in its field. If anything Warframe is the odd one out here, and only because it has a massive microtransaction system.

You’re not considering anything along the lines of Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Edition. Which wouldn’t exist if they didn’t sell. As it currently stands loyalty to the company and the game has cost dearly and now it’s all free. Except the actual RELEVANT content, which is still behind a paywall. Yet somehow the entire franchise is “free to play?” Nah bud. Edit: And how does Destiny NOT have a massive Microtransactions system? What would you call the fact that we’ve had zero vendor refresh since Y1 yet we have had a cash shop update every Season? Or the fact that under Activision we had Bright Engrams and a Prismatic Matrix, both of which have since gone away, even the Event engrams? Or maybe our new Battle pass that requires hardcore play/bounty completion to complete, or just BUY them?

  • I did not say the whole franchise was F2P, so you can stop trying to pull that one. Yes, some raids and the dungeons and their loot are behind a paywall, but the strikes and playable areas are there to play as well. You don't need to own Forsaken or Shadowkeep to progress your character. In fact, this system is much closer to MMO territory, where expansion-related activities are locked but you can still play in and explore the new areas. I will say again, TF2 went F2P just like D2 did and for similar reasons, and its forums were FILLED with posts exactly like yours, which soon petered out as people settled in. The only difference here is that while TF2 wound up filled broken and unbalanced weapons as well as some serious bugs (which are still being fixed 8 years later), Destiny 2 has not had such a huge shitshow to deal with aside from some issues with Cross-Save.

  • If the whole franchise isn’t free, it’s not a true F2P. Period. Warframe is a true F2P and thus its Micros are justified. TF2 isn’t comparable to Destiny, because it’s since BECOME a true F2P where the ONLY cost is the micros. Destiny has expansions and content locked behind paywalls AND micros. Destiny’s Micros aren’t justified, ESPECIALLY since those Micros are the only content with any kind of imagination or effort. Meanwhile the multiple planetary vendors and tower vendors continue to give meaningless duplicates of old garbage.

  • I’m saying since Shadowkeep isn’t F2P, Destiny is not F2P.

  • That makes some sense, but free-to-play players still get access to most of D2.

  • Sure, but logic states that it’s a business ploy to funnel new players into the Destiny franchise, and towards the content that’s locked behind the Shadowkeep and Eververse paywalls.

Well, where is the line drawn? Is a game considered F2P if it has additional DLC content? What if it’s just something minor, like a weapon or skin? What if something is achievable through gameplay, but it can be purchased for real world currency? Would a game like Fortnite not be considered F2P because it has an separate gamemode for purchase that has nothing to do with the free gamemode? My point is not that Destiny 2 is 100% free, it isn’t, but the core experience is. I find it far less headache-inducing to classify any game that can be played for free (that isn’t going to disappear after a short time, i.e. a demo or early access) as free to play.

  • Dude, TF2 is the second in its series. The rest of the series cost (and still costs) money to play, TF2 does not. That argument does not hold up. TF2 also has stuff locked behind a paywall, like the Mann Up mode for Mann vs Machine, where you need to purchase a $1 ticket every time you want to play it. And even after you finish all the missions in a tour (each mission requiring 1 ticket, so between 3 and 6 tickets depending on the mission set) you're most likely going to get crap as a reward, meaning you'll buy more tickets for another try at it (the drop rate for the best rewards make Anarchy and Thousand Voices look reasonable). There's also the Competitive mode, which required you to pay $20 just to access (reduced to $10 late last year). I don't see anything really game-changing in the Eververse store. All I see (am looking right now) are skins, vehicles, finishers, emotes and some shaders, none of which are priced above $10-worth of Silver or a few thousand Bright Dust.

  • Doesn’t change the fact that it’s the ONLY new shit. Everything else is reskinned or just the exact same.

  • Dude, the amount of stuff they've added with Shadowkeep far outweighs anything they've put in the Eververse store this season. Just look at the raid and dungeon, WAY more effort went into those alone than into anything at Eververse, and that's not counting the Moon, the Strikes, the new weapons and armour, etc.. And before you call reskin on that stuff: having returning enemies does not count as reskinning them because they're fought in completely different ways, and nor does the Moon count as a reskin, as it has changed A LOT since Destiny 1.
