I’m personally inclined to go with the Fallen civil war stuff, since that is a plot thread that has connections to so many events, even dating back to Destiny 1, and is also directly linked to Forsaken through Variks and Uldren. We’re still missing the connection between that and Season of the Undying, but it’s supposed to be this way. About that last one though: They said what we do in the raid causes the Vex invasions, not Eris‘s actions or what she awakens. Indirectly, they probably do, since going to the moon will somehow lead to the portal and raid, but that isn’t what they meant.

 • <Eris finds a thing, accidentally awakens it, that thing has something to do with the Garden, we stop the Garden, we piss off the Vex by doing so, Vex offensives, Final Assault, the end.>

 • Yeah, that’s what I meant by indirectly. We do have to have a reason for entering the Garden after all.

 • According to a leak, what gets released sparks the raid which sparks the invasions. That’s the basis I went off. To me though, fallen seems too unlikely. Unless it’s connected to house winter, I see no way fallen can have any connection to the vex. Although Skolas did use vex tech, and maybe him being returned as a nightmare, could’ve done something. I don’t know. Fallen to follow on from the vex just seems to unlikely imo. Unless they pull something really specific off, I don’t know.

 •
Is that the Typhon leak? I personally don’t buy all of it, but the derelict pyramid ship is basically confirmed. The character of Typhon just seems so out of place for this expansion. Now that we know there will be more years of Destiny 2, the old roadmap (aka. the ending cutscene) is probably off the table. I wouldn’t expect any encounter with “living” darkness for this and next year at least. Also encountering a higher-up of them before anything else seems even less likely.
The connection would be something more broad. Bungie said that during and after the Vex invasions, Destinys world will change. However that change may play out, it might: A. Leave one of the Fallen leaders in a better position, so they are able to make a big play. B. Drive all Fallen even more into desperation and therefore force them to make some moves, maybe even starting that civil war. C. The general world changes will lead to a smaller, specific change and will set loose the Fallen events. Predicting something like this is extremely hard.
