Not necessarily. If you buy the expansion, so long as you log in during that part of the story, it's yours forever. However, if you miss a season then it costs 200 gems, equating about two dollars or around 75 in game gold to buy it and access it at that point.

Hmm. I never saw the option to play season 1 (it had something to do with clockwork stuff I think) for any price but I could have been looking in the wrong spot. I will have to go check that out now.
